How taxi pricing works
Guadeloupe is a French department, so its taxis are metered and regulated exactly like taxis in mainland France. National law caps what the meter may charge: for 2026 the minimum fare is 8 EUR, the pickup charge (prise en charge) may not exceed 4.48 EUR, the per-kilometre rate may not exceed 1.30 EUR and the waiting/hourly rate may not exceed 42.15 EUR (Arrete du 24 decembre 2025, applicable from 1 February 2026). Within those ceilings the exact rates, and the higher night/Sunday tariff letters shown on the meter, are set by prefectural order and posted in the vehicle.

There are two official fixed fares (forfaits) from the airport, set in the same national order: 25 EUR between Aeroport Pole Caraibes and the Gare maritime de Bergevin, and 25 EUR between the airport and the Grand port maritime de la Guadeloupe. From the fifth passenger onward a 4 EUR per-passenger supplement applies at the airport. Tariffs are revised annually, so check the posted tariff before you travel.
Fares by destination
Apart from the two 25 EUR forfaits to the ferry terminals, there is no published per-destination price list for taxis at Pointe-a-Pitre Airport: the meter runs, and what it charges depends on the distance, the time of day and the tariff letter in force. This guide does not print per-town estimates, because the only honest answer is the meter and the tariff posted in the car.
What you can rely on: the ceilings above, the fact that a higher tariff applies at night and on Sundays and public holidays, and your right to see the tariff displayed in the vehicle. Ask the driver for an estimate to your destination before you set off, and if you want a number fixed in advance, book a transfer instead.

Renting a car is what many Guadeloupe visitors do, and rates swing widely between the quiet months and the December-April peak, so compare live quotes for your dates rather than trusting a figure printed in a guide. Factor in fuel and insurance. The advantage is that you pay once for transport flexibility throughout your entire stay.
Cost comparison for common scenarios
Solo traveler to Le Gosier (daytime): Le Gosier is the closest resort area, so a daytime metered taxi and a pre-booked transfer land in much the same place. Take whichever suits you.
Couple to Sainte-Anne (evening): the meter is on the night tariff, and Sainte-Anne is a long enough run that the per-kilometre rate is what decides the bill. A fixed transfer price is the safer bet.
Family of 4 to Deshaies: Deshaies is 60-70 km away over winding coastal and mountain roads, so this is the journey where a metered night fare is least predictable -- and where a transfer also gets you a vehicle suited to the luggage. Note too that a fifth passenger would add a 4 EUR supplement at the airport.
Tips for managing costs
If you are heading to a distant destination, a pre-booked transfer gives you a number you can plan around, whereas a nighttime meter over 60-plus km does not. For nearby destinations during the day, a taxi is straightforward and regulated. If you are staying more than a few days and want to explore, a rental car is the most economical option overall despite the higher upfront cost.
