Airport Express — the sweet spot
At HK$120 to Central with an Octopus card (HK$130 on a single journey ticket), the Airport Express is the default choice. Fares rose on 22 June 2025, the first increase in eight years, so check mtr.com.hk before you travel. Here's why the price is worth it:

Taxi fares by area
Hong Kong taxis are metered on a government tariff. A red urban taxi starts at HK$29 for the first 2 km, then charges HK$2.10 per 200 m (or per minute waiting) until the meter passes HK$102.50, after which it drops to HK$1.40 per 200 m (Transport Department, effective 14 July 2024). Luggage is HK$6 a piece. Crossing the harbour adds a flat HK$25 taxi toll plus a HK$25 return toll unless you boarded at a cross-harbour stand. The figures below apply that tariff over the distance to each area — the meter is the authority, and tariffs are revised from time to time.
