Barcelona Airport offers a wider range of transport options than most Spanish airports. Some of the fares below come from a published tariff and can be checked; others cannot. This page is explicit about which is which.
Fares set by a published tariff
Aerobus
- T1 or T2 to Plaça Catalunya: 7.45 EUR one way
- Return ticket: 12.85 EUR, return half valid 90 days
- Journey time: ~35 minutes
- Stops at Plaça Espanya, Gran Via (Urgell), Plaça Universitat, Plaça Catalunya
- Runs every 5-10 minutes from T1, every 10 minutes from T2
- Source: Aerobús (Monbus), fares effective March 2025. Not part of the integrated network — travel cards are not valid on it.
Metro (L9 Sud + change)
- Airport ticket: 5.90 EUR (TMB, in force from 15 January 2026)
- Journey time: 40-50 minutes including the change
- Change at Zona Universitaria (L3) or Torrassa (L1)
- Important: T-casual, T-familiar and T-grup are not valid for entering or exiting the L9 airport stations. T-usual, T-jove, T-dia and T-70/90 are. If you only have a T-casual, you still need the 5.90 EUR Airport ticket.
Rodalies commuter train (R2 Nord, T2 only)
- Single ticket, 1 zone: 2.90 EUR
- T-casual (10 journeys, 1 zone): 13.00 EUR
- Journey time: 20-25 minutes to Sants, continue by metro
- Unlike the L9 metro, all integrated tickets are valid to and from the airport station (ATM), which makes this the cheapest way into town — but only from T2. TMB fares in force from 15 January 2026.

Other destinations
The meter charges for time as well as distance, so congestion raises the fare. Over the 15 km to the city centre that comes to roughly 30-40 EUR by day, and more on the T-2 tariff once waiting time is added. Note the night/weekend tariff begins at 20:00, not 21:00 or 22:00. Tariffs are revised each January — check the current one before you travel.
Fares that are not published anywhere
Pre-booked transfers are not covered by any tariff. What you pay depends on the distance, the vehicle size and the supplier, and is quoted per booking — you see the exact total for your route and group before you pay. That is the trade: the price is fixed before you fly instead of running on a meter.
Anywhere outside the metropolitan taxi area — Sitges, Tarragona, Girona, the Costa Brava — falls outside the tariff above. There is no published fare for those trips. A taxi fare has to be agreed with the driver before you set off, and a transfer is quoted per booking. Treat any firm figure you see quoted online for an airport-to-Tarragona taxi as a guess.

What drives the cost
Time of day matters for Barcelona taxis. The T-1 tariff applies 08:00-20:00 on weekdays; the T-2 tariff (nights, weekends and holidays) is about 23% more per km. There is also a 4.60 EUR supplement on a few special nights (23-24 June, 24-25 December, 31 December-1 January).
Traffic on the approach roads is a genuine factor. The Ronda Litoral near the airport can be slow at rush hour, and because the meter also charges for time, that lands on your fare. A pre-booked transfer is agreed in advance, so it does not.
The C-32 toll motorway to Sitges avoids the slower coastal road. Tolls are the passenger's responsibility on a metered taxi; transfers normally fold them into the quoted price.
Group economics: the Aerobus is charged per person, a taxi or transfer per vehicle. That is what shifts the comparison as your group grows — four people on the Aerobus pay 29.80 EUR between them, which is close to a single metered taxi fare into the centre, door to door.
The value perspective
For solo travellers going to central Barcelona: the Aerobus at 7.45 EUR is very good value for a direct connection to Plaça Catalunya. If you land at T2, the Rodalies train at 2.90 EUR is cheaper still.
For groups of two or more: a taxi or private transfer becomes competitive per person, and you get door-to-door service with luggage included.
For Sitges, Tarragona and the Costa Brava: there is no cheap way to get there from the airport and no published fare. Get the price agreed before you travel.
