Late arrivals at Tulum Airport need more planning than most, because the published information is thin. This page tells you what is known and what is not.
What is published
The Mexican tourism ministry lists four ground options from the airport: a bus from the airport's bus terminal to Tulum Centro, an intermodal service to the Tulum station of the Tren Maya, authorised taxis in the arrivals hall and rental cars. It gives 207 MXN per person for the bus and 55 MXN per person for the intermodal service, which does not include the train ticket.

What is not published
The ministry does not state operating hours for the bus, the intermodal service or the taxis. It also gives no fare table for taxis. For that reason this guide does not say that any of them run late at night. If your flight lands after dark or is delayed, do not assume a bus or an intermodal departure will be waiting.
The drive
Our route database estimates about 42 minutes to Tulum, 40 to Akumal, 50 to Puerto Aventuras and 73 to Playa del Carmen. These are estimates, not live figures. Plan for a late check-in, and tell your accommodation your flight number and expected arrival.
Pre-booked transfers
A pre-booked transfer is arranged before you fly. Give your flight number and address at booking, and check your booking confirmation for how delays are handled and where to meet. If meet-and-greet is included in your booking, the driver meets you as stated there. This is the plan that does not depend on a published timetable.
Taxis
Authorised taxis wait in the corresponding zone of the arrivals hall, according to the ministry. If you take one at night, agree how the fare is set, and the total, before the car moves. Have your address saved on your phone.
Getting help
The ministry says there is an information module in the arrivals hall. The airport also lists the telephone number 55 4160 4141 and the email atencion@tulumairport.com for questions.
The bottom line
At night, choose the arrangement you have confirmed in advance over one you hope will be available. Keep your phone charged, save your accommodation's address and a contact number, and tell the property that you will arrive after dark. If a plan falls through, the information module in the arrivals hall is the place to ask for help before you leave the building.
