Quick answer

EuroAirport is a tri-national airport located on French soil and serving Switzerland, France and Germany. It has a Swiss sector and a French sector with separate exits and different onward transport.

The usual option to Basel is Bus 50 (operated by BVB), which runs to Basel SBB train station in about 20 minutes, every 7 to 10 minutes from 04:30 to midnight according to the airport. The airport is TNW zone 13; check the current single fare at tnw.ch or on the machine at the stop. A taxi to Basel is metered on the Basel-Stadt tariff (maximum 6.50 CHF base fare plus 4.00 or 4.50 CHF per km, see below); the airport lists about 50 CHF as an approximate fare from the city centre. For a pre-booked transfer, the fixed price is quoted at booking (see the live From price on this page).

For Saint-Louis, the Distribus line 11 shuttle leaves from the French sector (3 EUR by SMS ticket, per the airport). There is no direct shuttle to Mulhouse: take line 11 to Saint-Louis station, then a TER train. For Freiburg, the Freiburger Reisedienst bus runs from the French sector to Freiburg central bus station with hourly departures and about 60 minutes ride time, according to the airport.

Make sure you exit on the correct side (Swiss or French) for your destination.

What actually happens after landing

After collecting your luggage, you choose between the Swiss sector exit and the French sector exit. This determines which transport options you reach.

  • Swiss sector: Bus 50 to Basel and Swiss taxis. Use this if your destination is in Switzerland.
  • French sector: Distribus line 11 to Saint-Louis, the Freiburg bus and French taxis. Use this if heading to France or Germany.

The terminal is medium-sized. Currency exchange, ATMs and rental desks are available; you may need both CHF and EUR depending on your plans. Follow the signs in the arrivals hall for the correct sector and ask airport staff if unsure.

Bus 50 is the standard public connection to Basel. It leaves the Swiss sector every 7 to 10 minutes between 04:30 and midnight, takes about 20 minutes, and stops at Basel SBB. Fares follow the TNW zone tariff; the Half-Fare card gives the reduced rate on single tickets. Check the current fare at tnw.ch or on the machine at the stop.

Swiss taxis are metered. Swiss taxis are metered on the Basel-Stadt tariff, which sets maximum prices: 6.50 CHF base fare plus 4.00 CHF per km on weekdays 06:00-20:00 inside the canton, and 4.50 CHF per km at night (20:00-06:00), on Sundays and public holidays and for rides outside the canton boundary. A surcharge of 2.80 CHF applies to ordered (pre-booked) rides. The airport page lists about 50 CHF as an approximate fare between the city centre and EuroAirport; the meter decides the real fare.

For Mulhouse, use the French sector and take Distribus line 11 to Saint-Louis station (3 EUR by SMS ticket, 10-15 minutes), then a TER train; the airport lists trains to Mulhouse, Colmar, Sélestat and Strasbourg every 30 minutes. There is no direct airport-to-Mulhouse shuttle. For Freiburg, the Freiburger Reisedienst bus runs hourly (about 60 minutes); confirm the current timetable and fare with the operator.

Realistic pricing expectations

Switzerland is expensive and France less so; this airport straddles both economies.

Swiss-side fares are in CHF, French-side fares in EUR. The CHF/EUR rate moves, so check it on the day. The taxi figures above are the airport's approximate French-sector fares; the meter or a quote agreed before the ride is what counts.

Late night arrivals

According to the airport, Bus 50, Distribus line 11 and the Lörrach line 220 run until midnight, and the transport page describes no dedicated night bus or train. Check the current BVB timetable for the last Bus 50 on your date. After the last bus, your options are a taxi or a pre-booked transfer.

Bus 50 starts around 04:30. The airport lists higher French-sector night taxi fares than day fares (see the pricing table). For Swiss taxis, the Basel-Stadt night rate starts at 20:00.

Families and luggage

Bus 50 has luggage space but can be crowded in peak hours; with several suitcases a taxi or a pre-booked transfer is more comfortable for families.

Child seats: Under the Basel-Stadt tariff, a surcharge of 15.00 CHF applies per ordered taxi ride for one or more child seats or baby shells, and booster cushions are free of charge. Ask for the seat when you order the taxi. For a pre-booked transfer, request a child seat at booking and confirm it is included.

Children from 6 up to 16 pay the reduced TNW fare on Bus 50.

Where you meet the driver

Bus 50: Leave through the Swiss sector exit and follow signs to the bus stop.

Swiss taxi: Follow the taxi signs in the Swiss sector.

French taxi and shuttles: Follow the signs in the French sector.

Private transfer: If a meeting service is included in your booking, follow the instructions in your confirmation. Confirm which sector (Swiss or French) when booking, since it affects the meeting point.
