Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) – Getting to Lahore City

Allama Iqbal International Airport is about 15 km from central Lahore. The drive takes 25–45 minutes depending on traffic. Your best options are Careem or inDriver (app-based rides), a taxi from the airport stand, or a pre-booked private transfer (EUR 15–30, fixed when you book). There is no rail or metro connection from the airport.

Once you exit the arrivals hall, you enter a busy pickup area. Taxi touts will approach you immediately, offering rides at inflated prices. Porters may grab your bags without asking — if you do not want help, say so clearly. The scene can feel chaotic if you are not expecting it, but it is normal for Lahore.

If you have a pre-booked transfer, your driver will be waiting in the arrivals area with a name sign. For ride-hailing apps, walk past the crowd to the designated pickup zone.

Careem is the go-to app in Lahore — it works reliably at the airport and the price is shown before you accept. inDriver flips it round: you propose a fare and drivers take it or counter, which usually undercuts the taxi stand. The stand posts its own rates on a board and is consistently the dearest of the three. The only fixed price on this list is a pre-booked transfer, agreed before you fly.

Only the transfer column is a price we can stand behind, because it is fixed when you book. App fares move with demand and time of day, and no authority publishes a taxi tariff for this airport — so the honest answer is: open the app, or read the board at the stand.

What is reliably true is the shape of it. The apps are consistently the cheapest way into the city, the airport taxi stand is consistently the dearest of the on-the-spot options, and during Friday prayers and evening rush hour (5–8 PM) both prices and journey times rise.

Many international flights arrive in Lahore between midnight and 4 AM, especially from Dubai, Jeddah, and Doha. Careem works at night but wait times can be 10–20 minutes as fewer drivers are available. Airport taxis are always present for late flights. A pre-booked transfer is the most comfortable late-night option — your driver tracks the flight and is waiting regardless of the hour.

Pakistani families often travel with substantial luggage, so drivers and vehicles are generally prepared for heavy loads. However, standard Careem vehicles are compact sedans — a family of four with large suitcases may not fit comfortably.

For families, options include:

• Careem Go+ or Careem Business for a larger vehicle.
• Pre-booked transfer with SUV or minivan for guaranteed space.
• Child car seats are not standard in any vehicle type in Pakistan. If you need one, a pre-booked transfer is the only way to request it in advance.

Careem/inDriver: After exiting arrivals, walk past the taxi touts to the designated ride-hailing pickup area on the right side of the arrivals forecourt. The app will show you the pin location.

Airport taxi: The taxi stand is directly outside the arrivals exit. Rates are posted on a board — check before agreeing.

Pre-booked transfer: Your driver will be inside the arrivals hall or just outside the exit, holding a sign with your name. If you cannot find them, check your booking confirmation for a phone number.

Important: Ignore anyone inside the terminal who offers to carry your bags or arrange a taxi unless you have specifically asked for help. Unsolicited porters will expect a tip.
