Cost of Getting from Algiers Airport to the City

The short version

Algiers has no enforced taxi tariff for airport runs and no authority publishing one, so the honest answer to the question in the title is: it depends what you negotiate. The bus is very cheap, a taxi is settled at the kerb, and a pre-booked transfer is fixed when you book. This page will not give you a dinar range, because a range invented for an unregulated negotiated fare is not information — it is a number that sounds like information.

Taxi pricing in detail

There is no official fixed airport taxi tariff in Algiers. Drivers are supposed to use meters, but for airport runs most will quote a flat price. What you pay depends on your negotiating skills, the time of day, and how many taxis are available.

Distance still drives the price, even if nobody publishes it. Ordered from cheapest to most expensive:

• Bab Ezzouar — closest to the airport, the cheapest run
• El Harrach — also close in on the eastern side
• City center (Didouche Mourad, Audin, Place des Martyrs) — the standard journey
• Zeralda / western suburbs — noticeably further
• Tipaza (coastal town, 70 km) — a different order of journey; get this one quoted in advance

That order is the only thing that can be stated with confidence, since no dinar figures are published or enforced. If a quote seems out of line with that order — for example Zeralda priced below Bab Ezzouar — treat it as a sign the driver is trying their luck, and you can always walk away and try another taxi.

Bus costs

The ETUSA airport bus is by far the cheapest option — a standard city bus fare, paid in cash to the driver. However, it only runs during limited daytime hours, takes longer due to stops, and may not drop you close to your hotel. Pre-booked transfer costs

Transfer services quote and fix the price when you book, for a sedan or a minivan alike. The price includes a meet-and-greet at arrivals, so there is no searching for your car — and at an airport with no enforced tariff, having the number settled before you land is the substantive benefit, not just the convenience.

This is 2-4 times the taxi price, but you know the cost before landing, there is no negotiation, and someone is waiting for you.

Hidden costs to consider

If you need to withdraw cash at the airport ATM, be aware that your bank may charge international withdrawal fees. Some exchange counters at the airport offer poor rates. If you are comparing taxi costs, factor in the possibility of being overcharged on your first trip when you do not yet know local prices.

Tipping

Tipping taxi drivers is not strongly expected in Algeria, but rounding the fare up is appreciated. For pre-booked transfers, a small tip for the driver is a nice gesture but not required.

What affects the price

Time of day matters. Late night arrivals face higher taxi prices due to reduced supply. Traffic during rush hours means a longer ride and potentially a higher metered fare (if the meter is running). Holidays and Ramadan periods can also affect availability and pricing.
