Warsaw Airport: taxi, Uber, or private transfer?

Last updated: March 2026

Warsaw has good transport options from the airport, but the taxi situation has a few quirks worth knowing about.

The taxi landscape at WAW

Warsaw's airport taxis have improved dramatically in recent years, but some old problems linger:

Official taxis (from the rank):

  • Metered, licensed, mostly reliable
  • Fare to center: 40-60 PLN (€9-14)
  • Companies include Sawa Taxi, Ele Taxi, MPT
  • Cars are clean, drivers are professional
The problem that still exists:
  • Unlicensed drivers still approach passengers inside the terminal
  • They look legitimate but charge 100-200 PLN for a trip that should cost 50 PLN
  • They target tourists who look confused or tired
  • Never accept a ride from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal

Uber and Bolt — the modern solution

Ride-hailing apps have largely solved Warsaw's taxi trust problem:

  • Price shown upfront — no meter manipulation
  • Driver identity confirmed — photo, license plate, rating
  • Cashless — no arguments about change
  • Usually cheaper than metered taxis
Bolt runs 30-45 PLN, UberX 35-50 PLN to the center. The only downsides: you need the app and mobile data, and you have to walk to the ride-hailing pickup area (2-3 minutes from arrivals).

When a pre-booked transfer is worth it

Families with children: Polish taxis are exempt from car seat laws, but transfers can provide them. If you have kids under 10, this matters.

Large groups: A minivan transfer (€28-45) beats coordinating multiple Ubers or taxis.

Going outside Warsaw: Transfers with fixed prices to Krakow (€200-280), Lodz (€80-120), or Gdansk (€220-300) remove uncertainty.

Corporate/VIP: Guaranteed vehicle quality and professional service.

Language barrier: Transfer companies usually have English-speaking drivers. Random taxi drivers may not.

Comparison

| Factor | Taxi | Uber/Bolt | Transfer | |---|---|---|---| | Price to center | 40-60 PLN (€9-14) | 30-55 PLN (€7-13) | €18-32 | | Booking needed | No | App | Yes | | Surge pricing | No | Yes | No | | Child seat | No | No | On request | | Meet at arrivals | No (rank outside) | No (pickup zone) | Yes (name sign) | | Scam risk | Low at official rank | None | None | | Payment | Cash or card | Card (app) | Card | | Vehicle choice | Random | Category-based | You choose |

The train factor

Before debating taxi vs transfer, remember: the train costs 4.40 PLN (~€1) and takes 25 minutes. For solo travelers and couples with light luggage, neither a taxi nor a transfer can compete with this value. Take the train, then Uber from the station to your hotel if needed.

Our recommendation

For most travelers: Train to Centralna, then walk or take a quick Uber to your hotel. Total cost: €2-5.

If you want door-to-door: Bolt (cheapest app) or UberX. Reliable and affordable.

If you need certainty: Pre-booked transfer. €18-32 gets you a driver at arrivals with your name, no stress.

Never: Accept rides from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal. Walk to the official rank or use an app.
