Getting from Tbilisi Airport with kids and family

Last updated: February 2026

Tbilisi Airport is small and manageable, which works in your favor when traveling with children. But a few things need planning, especially around car seats and vehicle size.

Inside the terminal

The walk from the plane to baggage claim is short. Trolleys are available at the carousel area. There are restrooms near arrivals but no dedicated family or baby care room. The terminal is single-level from arrivals to the exit, so you will not struggle with stairs or elevators while carrying luggage and managing kids.

Car seats are your responsibility

Georgia does not strictly enforce child car seat laws, and most taxis do not carry them. If your child needs a car seat, you should either bring your own travel seat or arrange one through a pre-booked transfer service at the time of booking. Do not expect to find one at the taxi rank.

For children over about 6 years old who can use a regular seatbelt, this is less of a concern. But for toddlers and infants, planning ahead is important.

Vehicle size matters

A family of four with two large suitcases and a stroller may not fit comfortably in a standard sedan taxi. Georgian taxi drivers often have compact cars. If your group or luggage is large, you have two options: negotiate with multiple taxi drivers until you find one with a bigger car (time-consuming at the curb), or book a minivan transfer in advance.

Pre-booked transfers let you specify the vehicle type and note that you need space for a stroller, car seats, or extra luggage. This avoids the awkward moment of standing at the taxi rank trying to fit everything in.

Getting to your accommodation

Most family-friendly hotels in Tbilisi are in the Old Town or Vake district, both about 25 minutes from the airport. The ride is straightforward on a modern highway for most of the route, with city traffic closer to the center.

The bus with kids

Bus route 37 is technically an option during the day, but it is not practical with small children and luggage. The bus can be crowded, there is no luggage storage, and you may need to transfer to reach your hotel. It is best suited for solo travelers with backpacks.

Tips for families

  • Request a child seat when booking your transfer, specifying the child's age and weight
  • Bring snacks and water from the plane since the airport cafe may be closed at night
  • Have your hotel address saved on your phone in both English and Georgian
  • Book a vehicle with enough space rather than hoping for the best at the taxi rank
  • The ride to the city is smooth and usually fast, so even tired children manage it well
Tbilisi Airport is one of the easier airports to navigate with a family. The terminal is compact, distances are short, and with a vehicle booked in advance, you can go from plane to hotel in under an hour.
