MSQ - Minsk

Getting from Minsk Airport to the City with Kids

The 42 km journey from Minsk National Airport to the city is longer than most European airport transfers, which means planning ahead matters even more when you are traveling with children.

Why Pre-Booking Makes Sense for Families

With a 42 km drive ahead of you, the last thing you want after wrangling kids through passport control and baggage claim is to negotiate a taxi fare in Russian. A pre-booked transfer lets you request a child seat (or multiple seats) when you book, guarantees a vehicle large enough for your luggage and stroller, and means a driver is waiting for you with a name sign when you walk out. The price is fixed and the only thing you need to do is get in the car.

Child Seat Situation in Belarus

Belarusian law requires children under 12 to use appropriate child restraints in vehicles. However, taxis at MSQ almost never carry child seats. If you take a taxi, you would need to bring your own seat and install it at the curb. Rideshare cars via Yandex Go also do not provide child seats as standard. The only reliable way to get a child seat without carrying your own is to request one through a pre-booked transfer service.

The Airport Bus: Not Ideal for Families

The 300E bus to Minsk is a budget option for solo travelers, but for families it is impractical. The 50-60 minute ride with limited luggage storage, no child restraints, and possible crowding makes it a difficult experience with young children. Save the bus for a trip without the little ones.

What the Airport Offers

MSQ is a small terminal with basic facilities. There are restrooms available, though dedicated family or baby-changing facilities are limited compared to larger European airports. A small cafe operates during main arrival times. If you need to feed or change a baby after landing, plan to do so before heading to ground transport.

Luggage and Strollers

If you are arriving with a stroller, car seats, and multiple bags, make sure your booked vehicle can accommodate everything. A standard sedan may not have enough trunk space for a family's worth of luggage plus a stroller. When booking a transfer, specify your luggage count and mention any bulky items. A minivan or larger vehicle costs a bit more but makes loading and unloading far less stressful.

Winter Travel with Kids

Minsk winters are cold, with temperatures regularly dropping below -10C from December through February. The walk from the terminal to the parking area is short but exposed. Have coats and hats accessible for the children rather than packed away. A pre-booked driver picking you up at the terminal entrance minimizes time spent outside in the cold.
