MFM airport has a limited number of late flights, but if you arrive on one of the last services, here is what to expect.
Airport operations at night
Macau airport's last scheduled flights typically arrive around midnight to 1 AM. The terminal is quiet by then, with most shops and restaurants closed. Immigration processing is quick due to fewer passengers. You will likely be through arrivals within 10-15 minutes of leaving the aircraft.
Taxis after midnight
Taxis are available 24 hours at MFM. The queue outside arrivals is usually short late at night. A MOP 5 surcharge applies between midnight and 6 AM, but this is minimal. The roads are empty, so your ride to any destination in Macau will be faster than during the day. Expect 5 minutes to Cotai, 12-15 minutes to Macau Peninsula.
Casino shuttles at night
This is where late arrivals need to check ahead. Most casino hotel shuttles stop running between 11 PM and midnight. Some larger resorts like The Venetian and Galaxy may run later services, but schedules change seasonally. Do not count on a shuttle if your flight lands after 11 PM. Check your hotel's website or contact them directly for the latest shuttle timetable.
Public transport
Buses stop running around 11:30 PM. The LRT also has limited late-night service. Neither is a realistic option for arrivals after midnight.
Pre-booked transfer at night
A private transfer is the most reliable late-night option. The driver monitors your flight and will be at arrivals regardless of delays. The price is the same as daytime. For travelers arriving on delayed flights that push past midnight, this removes all uncertainty.
Is Macau safe at night
Macau is one of the safest cities in Asia. The airport area and main roads are well-lit. The Cotai Strip casino district operates 24 hours and is always busy. Macau Peninsula is quieter at night but still safe. Walking from a taxi to your hotel entrance at 2 AM is not a concern.
What if your flight is delayed
Flight delays can push your arrival past the last casino shuttle. If you were counting on a free shuttle, you now need a backup plan. This is a common reason travelers book private transfers for evening flights -- the driver waits regardless. If you did not pre-book, the taxi queue is your fallback. There are usually taxis available even after the last flights.
Practical tips
Have MOP or HKD cash ready for a taxi. While some hotel lobbies have ATMs, you do not want to arrive without any local currency. Save your hotel's address and phone number on your phone. Battery-low phones after a long travel day are common -- bring a power bank. If you are connecting through Macau to Zhuhai or Hong Kong, note that the Macau-Zhuhai border gate closes at midnight and reopens at 6 AM, while the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge port operates 24 hours.
