Family and Kids Guide: MFM Airport Transfers

Macau is a popular family destination thanks to the resort entertainment complexes on the Cotai Strip. Getting from the airport to your hotel with children is straightforward if you plan the right transport.

Arriving with children

MFM airport is small and easy to navigate. Immigration is usually fast, and the walk from the gate to arrivals is short. There are clean restrooms with baby-changing facilities before you exit the arrivals area. Free luggage carts are available. The whole airport experience is low-stress compared to larger regional hubs.

Child seat situation

Macau taxis do not provide child seats. There is no legal requirement for child restraints in taxis in Macau, but that does not mean it is safe to go without one. Casino shuttle buses do not have child seats either, as they are large coaches. If your child needs a car seat, a pre-booked private transfer is the only way to guarantee one. Specify your child's age and weight when booking so the correct seat type is provided.

Casino shuttles with kids

The free hotel shuttles are large, air-conditioned coaches. Children ride on a parent's lap or in a regular seat. These buses are a reasonable option for families -- the ride is smooth and short. The downside is waiting 10-20 minutes for the next departure and sharing the bus with other passengers. If your children are tired and fussy after a flight, this wait can feel longer than it is.

Taxis with kids

A taxi gets you moving immediately. However, a standard Macau taxi fits two adults and one or two children plus moderate luggage. If you have a stroller and multiple bags, it will be a tight fit. Two taxis is an option but means splitting the family.

Private transfer for families

A minivan transfer ($25-35 USD) is the most comfortable choice for families. Everyone rides together, there is room for luggage, strollers, and car seats, and the driver takes you directly to your hotel entrance. For a family of four or five, the per-person cost is similar to a taxi.

Stroller handling

Macau taxis require you to fold the stroller and fit it in the trunk. Large strollers may not fit alongside suitcases. Casino shuttle buses have small luggage compartments underneath. A private minivan or SUV has the most space. If you are bringing a large stroller, factor this into your transport choice.

Practical family tips

The rides in Macau are short, rarely more than 20 minutes. Even restless children can usually handle it. Have your hotel name in Chinese characters on your phone -- it helps taxi drivers. The Cotai resorts are very family-friendly and most have porters who will help with luggage when you arrive. If your flight lands during a meal time, there are a few food options at the airport, but the selection is limited -- better to eat at your hotel.
