Getting from Lima Airport to Your Hotel with Kids

Last updated: March 2026

Travelling with children through Jorge Chavez Airport is manageable, but a few things are worth knowing in advance.

The terminal experience

The arrivals hall is modern and reasonably spacious after recent renovations. There are baby changing facilities in the restrooms and a few cafes where you can grab something while sorting out transport. Luggage carts are free, which helps when you are juggling kids and bags.

Immigration can be slow — 30–60 minutes on a bad day. If you have young children, try to position yourselves near the front of the queue as the plane empties.

Child seats and vehicle options

This is the main challenge. Standard taxis and Uber drivers in Lima do not carry child seats. Peruvian law does require them for children under 5, but enforcement is lax and availability is poor.

Your best option is to pre-book a transfer and request a child seat when making the reservation. Most transfer companies can provide rear-facing infant seats and forward-facing toddler seats at no extra cost or a small surcharge of PEN 15–25 (~EUR 4–6).

If you are bringing your own car seat from home, a pre-booked transfer gives you time to install it properly. With a taxi or Uber, you will be fumbling with it on the curb while the driver waits.

Vehicle size for families

A standard sedan works for 2 adults, 1 child, and 2 large suitcases plus a stroller. If you have more than one child or extra luggage, book a minivan. Expect to pay PEN 90–130 (~EUR 22–32) to Miraflores for a larger vehicle.

The drive itself

The route from the airport to Miraflores is on main roads and generally smooth. The drive takes 30–50 minutes. Lima traffic can be chaotic, with lots of honking, but drivers are experienced and the main highways are well maintained.

Practical tips

  • Bring snacks and water for the ride — there are no convenient stops between the airport and most hotels.
  • Download offline maps in case you lose signal — helpful for tracking your route.
  • Book a transfer with meet-and-greet so you are not wandering around the terminal with tired kids looking for your ride.
