Arriving late at night at Kansai Airport: your real options

Last updated: March 2026

Late-night arrivals at Kansai Airport require planning because trains stop running well before midnight. The airport's island location means you cannot simply walk to nearby accommodation. Know your options before you land.

Last train departures

| Train | Last departure | Destination | |-------|---------------|-------------| | Haruka Express | ~10:15 PM | Tennoji, Shin-Osaka, Kyoto | | Nankai Rapit | ~10:40 PM | Namba | | Nankai regular | ~11:15 PM | Namba | | JR Kansai Airport Rapid | ~11:30 PM | Osaka Station |

If your flight lands after 9:30 PM, clearing immigration and baggage may take 30-45 minutes, which puts you very close to or past the last departures. Do not count on making a train if you land after 9:30 PM.

Option 1: Pre-booked transfer

This is the most practical solution for late arrivals. A sedan to central Osaka costs JPY 12,000-20,000 (EUR 75-125) with no late-night surcharge from most providers. The driver waits regardless of flight delays. You walk out of arrivals and go directly to your hotel. Book in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

Option 2: Taxi

Taxis operate 24 hours at KIX. The rank is outside the arrivals hall. After 10 PM, the metered fare increases by 20%, bringing the typical cost to central Osaka to JPY 22,000-30,000 (EUR 135-185). This is the most expensive option but requires no advance planning.

Option 3: Stay at the airport

Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport is directly connected to the terminal. Rooms start around JPY 12,000-18,000 (EUR 75-110) per night. It is comfortable and convenient, and you can catch the first morning train. First Cabin in the Aeroplaza building offers capsule-style sleeping pods at lower prices.

The Aeroplaza building (connected to Terminal 1 by a walkway) has a rest area and a few 24-hour food options. It is not luxurious, but it works for a few hours.

First morning trains

The first Haruka Express departs around 6:30 AM, and the first Nankai Rapit around 5:45 AM. If you stay at the airport hotel, you can be in central Osaka by 7:00 AM. For some travellers, this is more practical and cheaper than a late-night taxi.

Planning advice

If you know your flight arrives after 9:30 PM, book a transfer in advance or reserve the airport hotel. Arriving on the island with no plan after midnight is not dangerous, but your options are limited and expensive. A few minutes of planning saves real money and stress.
