KIX - Osaka

How much does it cost to get from Kansai Airport to Osaka?

Last updated: March 2026

Kansai International Airport is about 50 km from central Osaka, built on an artificial island in the bay. The distance means transport costs more than at many Asian airports, but Japan's rail options keep things reasonable.

Full price breakdown

| Transport | Destination | Price | Journey time | |-----------|------------|-------|-------------| | Nankai regular train | Namba | JPY 930 / EUR 6 | 50 min | | Nankai Rapit (limited express) | Namba | JPY 1,450 / EUR 9 | 40 min | | Haruka Express (unreserved) | Tennoji | JPY 1,740 / EUR 11 | 35 min | | Haruka Express (reserved) | Tennoji | JPY 2,280 / EUR 14 | 35 min | | Haruka Express (reserved) | Shin-Osaka | JPY 2,640 / EUR 16 | 50 min | | Haruka Express (reserved) | Kyoto | JPY 3,640 / EUR 23 | 75 min | | Airport limousine bus | Osaka Station | JPY 1,600 / EUR 10 | 60-70 min | | Airport limousine bus | Namba | JPY 1,600 / EUR 10 | 50 min | | Pre-booked transfer (sedan) | Central Osaka | JPY 12,000-20,000 / EUR 75-125 | 45-70 min | | Taxi (metered) | Central Osaka | JPY 18,000-25,000 / EUR 110-155 | 45-70 min |

What affects the price

The bridge toll from the airport island adds to taxi and transfer costs. Expressway tolls between the airport and Osaka are around JPY 1,500-2,500 and are included in metered taxi fares. Traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and evenings, which can push taxi meters higher.

Train prices are fixed regardless of time of day. The Haruka Express offers an ICOCA and Haruka discount ticket for foreign tourists, bringing the price down to around JPY 1,800 to Tennoji.

Tips for saving money

The cheapest option is the regular Nankai train (not the Rapit) at JPY 930 to Namba. It takes about 50 minutes and is perfectly comfortable. If you have a Japan Rail Pass, the Haruka Express is fully covered at no additional cost. Airport limousine buses offer good value and drop you at major hotels.

For groups of 3-4, a pre-booked transfer can work out cheaper per person than individual train tickets, with the added benefit of door-to-door service and luggage handling.
