Arriving at Baku Airport Late at Night

Last updated: February 2026

Baku airport handles a disproportionate number of late-night and early-morning flights. Several major carriers from the Middle East, Turkey, and Central Asia schedule arrivals between midnight and 4 AM. You will not be alone in the terminal at these hours.

The terminal at night

The airport remains fully operational around the clock. Immigration, baggage claim, currency exchange, and ATMs are all available regardless of the hour. The terminal is modern, clean, and well-lit. There is no sense of being in a closing airport; Baku is designed for 24-hour operations.

Transport options after midnight

The H1 express bus to the city center stops running around 11 PM. This eliminates the cheapest option for late arrivals.

Official airport taxis operate 24 hours. The taxi desk is staffed through the night, and vehicles are available. The fare to central Baku remains fixed at AZN 30-35 regardless of the hour.

Ride-hailing apps (Bolt, Uber) have reduced availability after midnight. You may find a driver, or you may wait 15-20 minutes with no response. Do not rely on these as your primary plan for a 2 AM arrival.

Pre-booked transfers are the most reliable option. Your driver tracks your flight and waits regardless of delays or the hour. For a 3 AM arrival, the peace of mind is worth it.

Unofficial drivers at night

The unofficial taxi operators do not disappear at night. In fact, they can be more persistent during quiet hours when fewer travelers are around. The same advice applies: walk past them to the official taxi desk. At 3 AM when you are tired and disoriented, the temptation to just go with whoever approaches first is stronger. Resist it. The official desk is steps away.

The drive into the city

The highway from the airport to central Baku is excellent, and late at night there is virtually no traffic. The drive takes about 20-25 minutes, which is actually faster than during the day. The road is well-lit for most of the route.

Should you stay near the airport?

There are limited hotel options near the airport itself. Most travelers continue straight into the city, which is practical given the short drive time. However, if you have an onward domestic flight early the next morning, staying near the airport can make sense.

Practical tips

Have your hotel address written down or saved on your phone. Late-night taxi drivers may have limited English skills. The airport Wi-Fi works for getting your bearings and contacting your driver. ATMs in the terminal are available 24 hours if you need local currency.
