Late night arrivals at Ankara Esenboga Airport — your real options

Last updated: March 2026

Ankara's airport handles domestic and international flights arriving late. Here's what actually works when your flight lands after 10 PM.

What's available after midnight

| Option | Available? | Cost | Notes | |---|---|---|---| | Havaş bus | Usually yes — matches last flights | 130 TL (€4) | Check schedule, runs for late flights | | Taxi | Yes, 24/7 | 700-900 TL (€20-25) | Same meter rate day and night | | BiTaksi | Limited | 650-850 TL (€18-24) | Fewer drivers at night | | Pre-booked transfer | Yes | €20-30 | Most reliable option |

The Havaş bus situation at night

Havaş typically schedules buses to match arriving flights, even late ones. If the last flight lands at 1 AM, there's usually a bus waiting. However, this isn't guaranteed — and if your flight is significantly delayed, the bus may not wait.

Check the Havaş website or ask at the airport information desk. If a bus is available, it's still the cheapest option at 130 TL.

Taxis at night

Good news: Ankara taxis use the same meter rate day and night. There's no night surcharge like in many European cities. And the drive is faster at night — expect 20-25 minutes to Kızılay without traffic.

Taxis are generally available at the rank 24/7, though the queue might be shorter after midnight. You might wait 5-10 minutes for one to appear.

The case for pre-booking at night

  • Certainty: Your driver is there regardless of your arrival time.
  • Flight tracking: If you're delayed 2 hours, the driver adjusts. No stress.
  • Fixed price: Same as daytime — no uncertainty.
  • Language: After midnight, your ability to communicate in Turkish (or the driver's in English) is even lower when everyone's tired. A pre-booked transfer with your hotel address already entered avoids confusion.

What about the road at night?

The O-20 motorway from ESB to Ankara is a good highway, well-lit and maintained. Night driving in Turkey is safe on major highways. The route passes through mostly empty areas — there's nothing between the airport and the city outskirts.

If you're connecting onward

Catching a night bus from AŞTİ: If you're continuing to another Turkish city by bus, the Havaş goes to AŞTİ (intercity bus terminal). Many intercity buses depart late at night. Check your bus schedule and plan accordingly.

Catching an early morning YHT train: High-speed trains to Istanbul start around 6 AM from Ankara Garı. If your flight arrives after midnight, you could taxi to a hotel near the station and rest before your train.

Security and safety

Ankara is the capital and ESB is a well-secured airport. The taxi rank is supervised, and the terminal area is safe at night. The drive to the city is via a major highway with no concerns. Standard precautions apply: use official taxis, keep your belongings close.
