Arriving late at Dublin Airport: your real options

Last updated: March 2026

Dublin Airport handles plenty of transatlantic red-eyes and late European arrivals. The good news: it has better late-night transport than most European airports.

What runs when

| Transport | Availability | Night frequency | |---|---|---| | Aircoach 700 | 24 hours | Every 30-60 min overnight | | Dublin Express | 24 hours | Every 30-60 min overnight | | Dublin Bus (16/41) | Until ~23:30 | Nitelink service weekends | | Taxis | 24/7 | Always at the rank | | Pre-booked transfers | 24/7 | Always available |

The 24-hour Aircoach advantage

Dublin Airport's ace card: the Aircoach runs all night. At 3 AM, you can still catch a bus to O'Connell Street for 7-8 EUR. The overnight frequency drops to every 30-60 minutes, but it's running. Check the timetable on aircoach.ie for exact times on your date.

The coaches are the same comfortable ones as daytime — luggage space, Wi-Fi, comfortable seats. And at 2 AM, the roads are empty, so the 30-minute estimated journey actually takes 20 minutes.

Taxis at night

The taxi rank operates 24/7 and usually has cars waiting, especially when flights land. Dublin Airport has strict management of its taxi rank — no unauthorized drivers.

Night pricing: Dublin taxis have a premium rate between 8 PM and 8 AM. Expect to pay about 10-15% more than daytime rates. A city center ride costs roughly 35-48 EUR at night.

The silver lining: no traffic at 2 AM. The ride takes 15-20 minutes — much faster than the daytime crawl.

Pre-booked transfers at night

All the usual benefits apply:

  • Flight tracking — driver adjusts for delays
  • Waiting at arrivals — no searching at 2 AM
  • Fixed price — 35-55 EUR to the city center, same as daytime
  • No night surcharge from most transfer companies
Some companies add 5-10 EUR for pickups between midnight and 5 AM. Confirm when booking.

Transatlantic arrivals

US flights from JFK, Newark, Boston, and Chicago often arrive between 5-7 AM. At that hour, the Aircoach is running full frequency and taxis are plentiful. The early morning slot is actually one of the easiest times to get into Dublin — traffic hasn't started yet.

The Nitelink (weekend only)

On Friday and Saturday nights, Dublin Bus runs Nitelink services — late-night buses to suburbs. These are designed for locals going home from nights out, not airport travelers. Not relevant for most visitors.

Safety at night

Dublin Airport is safe at all hours — well-lit, security present, 24/7 operations. Dublin city center is generally safe at night, though O'Connell Street can be a bit rowdy late on weekends. Your hotel area is almost certainly fine.

Our recommendation

The Aircoach is the clear winner for budget-conscious late-night arrivals — 7 EUR, comfortable, and running at any hour. If you have luggage or prefer door-to-door, a taxi or transfer works well too, and the empty nighttime roads make the ride quick. Pre-book a transfer if you want zero uncertainty.
