Djerba Airport Transfers with Family and Kids

Last updated: March 2026

Arriving at Djerba Zarzis Airport with children is manageable, but a few things are worth knowing before you land.

The airport experience with kids

DJE is a small, single-terminal airport. That is actually an advantage with children — there are no long walks between gates and baggage claim, no confusing terminal changes. The downside is that when multiple charter flights land together, the immigration hall gets crowded and warm. There is limited seating in the queue area. If you have young children, one parent collecting passports and standing in line while the other keeps kids occupied nearby works well.

Baggage reclaim is directly after passport control. Trolleys are available but can be scarce during busy periods. The walk from baggage belt to the exit is less than two minutes.

Child seats in taxis

Standard Djerba taxis do not carry child seats. This is non-negotiable — you will not find one in any taxi at the rank. If your children are old enough to use a seatbelt (generally over 135 cm), a taxi works fine. For younger children requiring a booster or car seat, you have two options:

  • Bring your own travel car seat and install it in the taxi. Drivers are generally patient about this.
  • Book a private transfer with a child seat request. Reputable transfer companies provide appropriate seats when requested at booking time.

Luggage space

A typical family of four on a week-long beach holiday travels with two large suitcases, a couple of carry-ons, a pushchair, and assorted bags. A standard taxi sedan will struggle with this volume. The boot fits two large cases at best, and the pushchair may need to go on a seat.

A pre-booked minivan or MPV solves this cleanly. The driver arrives with a vehicle sized for your group, and everything fits without creative packing.

Practical tips for families

  • Bring snacks and water for the immigration queue — the terminal has limited options after landing.
  • Download offline maps of Djerba before arrival. Mobile data SIM cards are available in Houmt Souk but not at the airport.
  • Hotel shuttle buses from package operators can take 30–45 minutes with multiple hotel stops. With tired children, a direct transfer is worth the small premium.
  • The drive to most resorts is 10–20 minutes — short enough that even restless kids manage fine.

Recommended approach for families

For families with children under 6, a private transfer with a pre-arranged child seat is the most practical option. The price — around 30–40 EUR to the hotel zone — is a small cost compared to the hassle of managing car seats, luggage, and negotiations after a flight.
