CLO handles flights until the evening, with some domestic flights from Bogota and international arrivals from Miami or Panama City arriving between 21:00 and midnight. Late-night arrivals require more planning than daytime ones, primarily because of the 16 km drive through less populated areas.
Taxi availability at night
The taxi dispatch counter operates while flights are arriving. Even for late flights, there are taxis available. The fixed fare to central Cali remains approximately COP 55,000-70,000 (EUR 12-16), same as during the day.
The drive at night is actually faster — 20-25 minutes to city center with no traffic. The highway between Palmira and Cali is well-lit on the main stretches, though some sections pass through less illuminated areas.
Security considerations
This is where Cali differs from some airports. The road from Palmira to Cali, while generally safe, is less populated at night. General advice:
- Use only the official taxi dispatch — never accept a ride from someone approaching you in the terminal
- A pre-booked transfer is the safest option at night — you get a vetted driver in an identifiable vehicle
- Keep valuables out of sight during the ride
- Share your trip details with someone at your hotel
- If using a ride-hailing app, do not wait outside the terminal in dark areas
Pre-booked transfers at night
A private transfer is arguably most valuable for late-night arrivals at CLO. At COP 100,000-140,000 (EUR 22-32), you get a professional driver who monitors your flight status, waits inside arrivals with a name sign, and drives a tracked vehicle. For an extra COP 40,000-60,000 over a taxi, the peace of mind is significant.
What is open after arrival
Cali is famous for its nightlife, especially its salsa scene. If you arrive by 22:00, the city is very much alive. Restaurants in Granada, San Antonio, and along the Rio Cali serve until late. Convenience stores and late-night food stalls are plentiful.
If arriving after midnight, food options narrow to 24-hour convenience stores, gas station shops, and the occasional late-night eatery. Plan to have something to eat at your hotel or pick up snacks at the airport before leaving.
Accommodation near the airport
If your flight arrives very late and you have early plans in Palmira or the surrounding area, staying near the airport is an option. Several hotels in Palmira are within 10 minutes of CLO. This avoids the nighttime drive to Cali entirely. Palmira is a quieter city and safe for overnight stays.
Public transport at night
Public buses between Palmira and Cali do not run late at night. After approximately 21:00, your options are limited to taxis, ride-hailing apps, or pre-booked transfers.
