Brisbane Airport handles international flights around the clock. Many arrivals from Asia, the Middle East, and North America land between midnight and 5 AM. Here is what that looks like on the ground.
Airtrain — not an option after 22:00
The last Airtrain departs around 22:00 (exact time varies by day). The first morning service starts around 05:00-05:30. If you land between these hours, the train is out.
This is the single biggest transport gap at BNE. During Airtrain hours, getting to the city is easy and cheap. Outside those hours, you are relying on road transport.
Taxis after midnight
The taxi rank at both terminals operates 24 hours. Brisbane Airport is experienced with early-morning international arrivals, and taxis are typically available even at 3 AM and 4 AM.
A late-night booking fee of approximately AUD 2.90 may be added to the meter, plus the standard AUD 3.70 airport surcharge. Total fare to the CBD at night: roughly AUD 48-62 (EUR 29-37). Traffic is nonexistent at these hours, so travel time is about 20 minutes.
Uber and DiDi at night
Both apps operate 24 hours. Driver availability varies — at 2 AM you might wait 5-10 minutes compared to near-instant during the day. Surge pricing is possible but generally mild at the airport during late hours (the surge tends to hit more in the Valley and Fortitude Valley entertainment districts).
Expect to pay AUD 38-55 (EUR 23-33) for a late-night ride to the CBD.
Pre-booked transfers
For late-night international arrivals, a pre-booked transfer is the most reliable option. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall, tracks your flight for delays, and charges the same price as a daytime booking — typically AUD 70-100 (EUR 42-60) to the CBD.
This matters most when you have been on a long-haul flight, it is 4 AM, and you just want someone to take you to your hotel without any app-fiddling or queue-standing.
The airport between midnight and 5 AM
- The International Terminal stays active between flights — immigration, customs, and arrivals hall are open
- A few cafes and convenience stores operate for arrivals
- ATMs and WiFi are available
- The Domestic Terminal is much quieter at night
- The inter-terminal shuttle still runs for connecting passengers
Should you stay near the airport?
The Novotel and Pullman hotels are within walking distance of the terminals via the Skygate precinct. Rates start around AUD 150-200 per night. If your onward plans start the next day and you are arriving after midnight, staying near the airport and taking the Airtrain in the morning can be more restful than a late-night city transfer.
Our recommendation
If arriving after 22:00, a pre-booked transfer offers the best experience — guaranteed, no surge, meet-and-greet in arrivals. For budget-conscious travelers, a taxi from the rank is straightforward and available 24 hours.
