Bologna Marconi Airport handles flights into the late evening, with budget carriers sometimes arriving around 23:00-midnight. A few things change when you land late.
The Marconi Express situation
The monorail stops running around midnight (last departure approximately 00:10) and resumes around 05:40. If your flight lands before midnight and you clear baggage quickly, you may catch the last service. If not, you need an alternative.
Do not count on catching the last monorail if your scheduled arrival is after 23:00 — any delay puts it out of reach.
Taxis after midnight
Taxis are available at the rank outside arrivals, but the queue is shorter than during the day. You may wait 5-15 minutes. The fare to central Bologna is the same as daytime, plus a night surcharge of a few euros (typically EUR 3-5 extra after 22:00). Total ride to the center: EUR 18-30.
If the taxi rank is empty, there is a phone at the stand to call for one. You can also use the FreeNow or itTaxi apps to request a car.
Pre-booked transfers
For late arrivals, a pre-booked transfer removes the only real concern — whether a taxi will be available. Your driver is confirmed, waiting at arrivals, and the price is fixed. This costs more (EUR 35-60) but provides certainty, which matters more at midnight than at noon.
The airport at night
BLQ is not a large airport and it quiets down after the last flights. Most shops and food outlets close. The terminal is safe and clean but not comfortable for an extended wait. If you are connecting to an early morning flight, there are no dedicated sleeping facilities — a nearby hotel is a better option.
Nearby hotels
If arriving very late and not wanting to go into the city, there are a few hotels near the airport. The Zanhotel and a couple of budget options are within a short taxi ride. This is a practical choice if your business or onward travel is the next morning.
The bottom line
Late-night arrivals at BLQ are straightforward. The only thing you lose is the Marconi Express. Taxis fill the gap for most people. If you want certainty, book a transfer. Bologna is a safe, organized city — arriving late is a minor inconvenience, not a problem.
