Adelaide Airport isn't a 24-hour hub. Most flights arrive by 11 PM, with only a handful of late domestic or international arrivals after that. If you're landing late, here's what to expect.
The late-night landscape
Adelaide is a quieter city than Sydney or Melbourne. After 10 PM, things slow down. This affects airport transport:
Taxis — available but fewer
The taxi rank operates around the clock, but after 11 PM there are notably fewer cabs. For the last domestic flights (arriving 10-11 PM), there are usually enough taxis. For anything later, you might wait 10-15 minutes. The night tariff kicks in at 7 PM: fares are about 15% higher than daytime.
Uber/DiDi — hit or miss
Late-night ride-hailing in Adelaide is less reliable than in Sydney or Melbourne. After midnight, fewer drivers are active. Wait times of 10-20 minutes are common. Friday and Saturday nights are better (more drivers working). Tuesday 1 AM? You might wait a while.
JetBus — not running
The bus doesn't operate late at night. Last service is typically around 9-10 PM depending on the day.
Pre-booked transfer — guaranteed
The only option that guarantees a driver at your arrival time, regardless of when you land. Costs €20-30 to the CBD. The driver tracks your flight for delays.
Night arrival pricing
| Transport | Night fare to CBD | Availability | |---|---|---| | Taxi (night rate) | AUD $30-40 (~€18-24) | Usually available | | UberX | AUD $20-35 (~€12-21) | Variable | | Pre-booked transfer | €20-30 | Guaranteed | | JetBus | Not running | — |
International arrivals
If you're arriving on an international flight (from Auckland, Singapore, or connecting from other Australian cities), immigration and customs can take 30-45 minutes. By the time you exit, it could be midnight even if your flight landed at 11 PM. Factor this into your transport planning.
Safety at Adelaide Airport at night
Adelaide Airport is safe. The area around it is suburban and quiet — not sketchy. The terminal is well-lit and has security. However:
- There's nothing within walking distance — no nearby hotels, restaurants, or services
- Don't plan on walking to the city (7 km along busy roads)
- The terminal may close after the last flight — you can't camp overnight
Our recommendation
For flights arriving before 11 PM: Taxi from the rank. There will be enough cabs for the last domestic flights.
For flights arriving after 11 PM: Pre-book a transfer. The extra €5-10 over a taxi buys you certainty, and you don't want to stand at an empty taxi rank at midnight in a strange city.
If you're on a budget: Open your ride-hailing apps as soon as you land and request a car while you're still at baggage claim. By the time you exit, the car may be arriving.
