Bradley International Airport to Hartford: what you actually need to know

Bradley International Airport (BDL) is about 20 km north of Hartford, Connecticut, in the town of Windsor Locks. A taxi or rideshare to downtown Hartford takes 20-30 minutes. There is also a bus: the CT Transit Bradley Flyer runs to downtown Hartford for USD 1.75 one way. Bradley is a mid-size regional airport serving Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

Bradley has two terminals connected by a walkway. Most domestic flights use Terminal A. International arrivals (primarily from Canada and seasonal Caribbean routes) arrive at Terminal A as well, with a small customs and immigration area. Processing is usually quick given the low volume of international flights.

Baggage claim is on the lower level of each terminal. The airport is compact and well-signed. You will not walk long distances. Once you collect your bags, ground transportation is accessible via the lower level exits. Signage directs you to taxis, rideshare pickup, rental cars, and the bus stop. The whole process from gate to ground transport takes 15-25 minutes for domestic flights.

Check a live quote in the app. Wait times are usually under 10 minutes during normal hours.

Pre-booked private transfers offer a driver meeting you in the arrivals area. The price is fixed when you book and depends on the distance and vehicle, so it does not surge and does not move with traffic. Useful for business travellers, groups, or those wanting guaranteed service.

CT Transit Bus Route 30 (Bradley Flyer) connects the airport to downtown Hartford for USD 1.75 one way (CTtransit). The bus runs every 30 minutes during peak hours and every 60 minutes off-peak, with service from roughly 5 AM to midnight. The ride takes 40-55 minutes. The bus stop is at the ground level of the terminal. This is the one fare here that is published and checkable.

Rental cars are available from the rental car center, a short shuttle ride from the terminals. All major companies are represented.

Hotel shuttles are offered by several hotels near the airport, particularly along the I-91 corridor. Check with your hotel for availability.

Connecticut law requires children under 2 (and under 30 pounds) to ride rear-facing, and child restraint or booster seats are required for older children by age and weight — check the current CT requirements before you travel. Confirm the meeting point when booking. The airport is small enough that finding your driver is straightforward.

Choose a rideshare if you want the best price-to-convenience ratio and are comfortable using Uber or Lyft. This is the default choice for most travellers.

Choose a pre-booked transfer if you are a business traveller, have a large group, need child seats, or want guaranteed service for a late arrival.
