When rideshare is the clear winner
For solo travelers and couples going to Uptown, South End, or NoDa, Uber or Lyft is often the cheapest car option — Charlotte's rideshare market is competitive and the pickup zone is well-organized and clearly signed. But neither company publishes a rate, so the only honest advice is to open the app and look.
The caveat is event-driven surge pricing. CLT is close to Bank of America Stadium (Panthers) and Spectrum Center (Hornets, concerts). On game days, rideshare prices from the airport can spike hard. Because the taxi to Uptown is a fixed $34.50, you have a firm number to compare against: if the app quotes more, walk to the taxi stand instead.

Charlotte Douglas sets a $32 flat rate to Uptown (within the I-277 loop) and a $16 flat rate within 3 miles of the airport, plus a $2.50 airport fee on every trip.
