If your flight lands at AlUla International Airport late in the evening or after midnight, plan your transport before you leave home.
What we could confirm
The Royal Commission for AlUla, the official destination authority, lists airport taxis as a limited number available on a first-come, first-served basis. It also lists car rental desks at the airport. We could not confirm from an official source whether the taxis operate at night, or the opening hours of the rental desks, so do not assume either is available after a late flight.
The airport currency exchange counter is listed as open daily from 08:00 to 17:00. A late-evening arrival will therefore find the counter closed, so carry some local cash or a working card.
Your transport options at night
Airport taxi: limited in number and first come, first served. If one is available, agree the fare before you get in.
Ride-share app: the Royal Commission promotes a ride-share app for travel within the destination. We could not confirm that it serves airport pick-ups or operates overnight; check the app before you travel.
Pre-booked transfer: if included in your booking, a driver meets you at the agreed point and the price is fixed at booking (see the live From price on this page). Check your confirmation for the meeting point and driver contact details, and confirm at booking how delays are handled.
Practical tips for late arrivals
- Save your accommodation address and phone number on your phone, in English and, if possible, in Arabic
- Tell your accommodation your flight number and expected arrival time, so check-in can be arranged for a late arrival
- If you booked a transfer, keep the contact number from your confirmation accessible
- Charge your phone before you land and arrange mobile data in advance
- Carry some cash, because the exchange counter will probably be closed
If no vehicle is waiting
Stay inside the arrivals area while you look for options, contact your accommodation or the transfer provider using the numbers saved on your phone, and do not accept a ride from someone who approaches you without agreeing the destination and the fare first. If you hold a booking, call the driver's number from your confirmation and say where you are standing.
Distances to expect
Our route database lists AlUla Town at about 24 km from the airport (roughly 34 minutes), the Ashar Valley resort area at about 21 km (roughly 31 minutes) and the Hegra area at about 38 km (roughly 49 minutes). These are approximate estimates and depend on traffic. Roads in the area may be dark at night, so allow a little extra time and ask your driver to take the main route.
