TZX - Trabzon

Arriving at Trabzon Airport Late at Night

Trabzon handles a steady flow of late domestic flights, particularly the last Istanbul connections that can land around 11 PM or later. International flights from Gulf cities also arrive at unconventional hours. Here is what late-night arrivals look like at TZX.

The Airport After Dark

The terminal stays open and staffed for arriving flights. Lighting and heating are maintained. The cafes may be closed or closing, but ATMs and restrooms remain available. The terminal is modern and does not feel unsafe at night.

Baggage delivery can be slightly slower during late hours, but generally you will have your bags within 20 minutes of landing.

Taxi Availability

Taxis are typically available at the rank for late-night flights, though the queue of available cars is shorter than during the day. After midnight, you may wait 10-15 minutes for a car, especially if a large flight has just landed.

Drivers are generally willing to go to central Trabzon at any hour. For destinations outside the city, it becomes more difficult. Asking a taxi driver to take you to Uzungol (2 hours) or Ayder (3 hours) at midnight is a hard sell. Some will agree for a premium price, but many will simply refuse. The mountain roads are dark and less safe at night.

Havabus at Night

The Havabus tries to cover the last flights of the day, but service is not guaranteed if your flight is significantly delayed. Check the current schedule before relying on it for a late arrival. If the bus is running, it follows the normal route to Ataturk Alani.

The City at Night

Trabzon is generally safe at night. The drive from the airport along the coastal road is well-lit and passes through populated areas. Hotels in the city center are accustomed to late check-ins from delayed flights.

The Meydan area has some restaurants and cafes that stay open late, especially during summer. You will be able to find food if you are hungry after your flight.

Long-Distance Transfers at Night

This is where planning matters. If your final destination is Uzungol, Sumela, Ayder, or anywhere in the mountains, arriving late creates a genuine problem. Mountain roads in the Eastern Black Sea region are poorly lit, often fog-covered at night, and can be dangerous in bad weather.

The practical approach is either to pre-book a transfer with a driver who has confirmed willingness and experience with night driving on these routes, or to stay in Trabzon overnight and continue to your highland destination in the morning. The morning option is often the wiser choice, as you miss the scenery entirely when driving mountain roads in darkness.

Pre-Booking for Peace of Mind

A pre-booked transfer ensures someone is at the airport regardless of when you land. The driver tracks your flight, adjusts for delays, and is committed to your journey. For a city center drop-off, this is a convenience. For anything beyond the city at a late hour, it is close to a necessity.
