Getting from Cappadocia Nevsehir Airport to your hotel

Nevsehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) is about 30 km from Goreme, 25 km from Uchisar, and 20 km from Urgup, the three most popular places to stay in Cappadocia. There is no public transport from the airport. Your options are a pre-booked private transfer, a shuttle bus run by the airlines (Havabus), or a taxi. Most visitors end up on either the shuttle or in a transfer vehicle. The drive to Goreme takes about 30-40 minutes.

NAV is a small regional airport. It handles a limited number of flights per day, mostly from Istanbul and Ankara. The terminal is compact, with a single baggage belt and a small arrivals area. Immigration is not relevant for domestic flights, which make up the vast majority of arrivals.

Once you collect your bags, you walk out into a modest parking area. The shuttle buses and transfer drivers will be waiting here. There is not much at the airport itself, no restaurants, minimal shopping, and limited seating. The idea is that you collect your bags and leave.

For international arrivals (rare, mostly seasonal charters), there is a basic immigration process. The airport is not designed for high volumes, so if a charter flight lands, the queues can feel slow relative to the small terminal.

Cappadocia also has a second airport, Kayseri Erkilet (ASR), about 75 km from Goreme. If you flew into Kayseri by mistake or by choice, the journey is longer but the same principles apply.

Pre-booked private transfers are the most common choice for tourists. A driver meets you at the airport and takes you directly to your hotel, including the cave hotels in Goreme that can be tricky to find without local knowledge. The price is fixed and known in advance.

Taxis are available at the airport, but the supply is limited and pricing can be inconsistent. For a tourist destination, the taxi experience at NAV can feel unprofessional compared to larger airports. Negotiate the fare before getting in.

Hotel shuttles are offered by some hotels and cave hotels. These are usually free or low-cost but may be shared with other guests. Ask your hotel before booking anything else.

Rental cars are possible from Nevsehir, but roads in Cappadocia are fine for driving and the valley towns are compact. Parking at cave hotels can be challenging due to narrow streets. A rental makes more sense for multi-day exploration than for the airport transfer itself.

NAV receives some evening flights from Istanbul, occasionally arriving around 22:00-23:00. The airport essentially shuts down after the last flight. Taxis will be scarce, and the shuttle bus schedule is tied to flight arrivals.

If you are arriving late, a pre-booked transfer is essentially your only reliable option. The drive to Goreme at night is on dark, winding roads through the Cappadocian landscape. Your driver should know these roads well, which is another argument for booking in advance rather than hoping for a taxi.

Most cave hotels expect late check-ins from evening flights and will have someone waiting for you.

The airport is simple to navigate with children. Distances are short, and the terminal is single-level. The main concern for families is the drive to Goreme, which involves some winding roads that can cause car sickness in susceptible children.

Child car seats are not available in taxis and must be requested with transfer services at the time of booking. Luggage space in standard transfers is adequate for most families, but if you are traveling with bulky items, mention this when booking.

Cappadocia itself is very family-friendly, with balloon rides, valley hikes, and pottery workshops that appeal to children.

The airport is small enough that finding your driver is easy. Transfer drivers wait outside the arrivals exit with name boards. The parking area is compact, and you will see all the waiting drivers within a few steps of the exit.

For the Havabus shuttle, look for the bus in the parking area directly in front of the terminal. It departs shortly after flight arrivals and does not wait long.

Choose the Havabus shuttle if you are staying in or near Nevsehir city center and want to save money.

Choose a taxi if you are flexible, comfortable negotiating in Turkish, and confident about the route.

Choose a hotel shuttle if your accommodation offers one. Confirm availability and timing before relying on it.
