Family Transfers from Nakhchivan Airport

The good news about Nakhchivan Airport is that the transfer to the city is short — under 10 minutes. The less good news is that facilities and transport options are limited. Here is what families should know.

Child seats

Child seats are not standard in Nakhchivan taxis and are not commonly available from local transport providers. If you need one, your options are limited. Bringing your own travel car seat is the most reliable approach. For a 3 km, 5-minute ride on quiet city streets, some families choose to hold younger children, though this is not recommended from a safety standpoint.

If you are booking a private transfer through an international service, ask about child seat availability when reserving. Confirm the day before arrival, as availability in this region is genuinely scarce.

Luggage and strollers

The small terminal and short walking distances mean luggage handling is simple. Baggage claim is close to the exit. Trolleys may be available but the distance is short enough to carry bags without difficulty.

Taxis at the airport are usually sedans with a standard trunk. If you have a stroller plus multiple suitcases, check that everything fits before loading the children. For larger families with significant luggage, requesting a minivan or larger vehicle through a pre-booked transfer avoids the cramming problem.

At the airport

Nakhchivan Airport is a basic facility. Do not expect family restrooms, play areas, or baby changing stations beyond what the standard restrooms offer. If your child needs food, milk, or supplies, bring everything with you — there may be a small kiosk but selection is extremely limited.

The arrivals process is fast for a small airport. Immigration takes 5 to 15 minutes, and baggage appears quickly. You will not be stuck waiting long with restless children.

Getting to your hotel

The simplest approach for families is to ask your hotel to arrange a pickup. Most Nakhchivan hotels are accustomed to this and will send a driver at no charge or for a nominal fee. This eliminates any uncertainty about finding a taxi or negotiating with children in tow.

If your hotel does not offer this, a pre-booked transfer at 10-20 AZN is the next best option. A waiting driver with a sign takes one decision off your plate.

Beyond the city

If your family plans include visiting Ordubad, the Alinja fortress, or the Batabat highlands, arrange transport in advance from the city. These are not trips you can easily arrange at the airport.

Bottom line

The short transfer distance makes Nakhchivan one of the easier airports for families. The main challenge is the lack of child seats in local vehicles. Bring your own if your children need one, arrange a hotel pickup, and the airport-to-hotel journey is over before anyone has time to get cranky.
