Arriving at Lagos Airport Late at Night – What to Expect

Last updated: March 2026

Many international flights to Lagos arrive between 10 PM and 3 AM. This is actually the best time to arrive, because Lagos traffic — the city's biggest headache — disappears at night.

The big advantage of arriving late

A drive to Victoria Island that takes 2 hours at 5 PM can take 45 minutes at midnight. The Third Mainland Bridge is empty, the roads are clear, and you reach your hotel in a fraction of the daytime travel time.

This alone can make a late arrival preferable to a midday one.

What works after midnight

| Option | Available? | Price to V.I. (NGN) | Price (EUR) | Notes | |--------|-----------|---------------------|------------|-------| | Pre-booked transfer | Yes | 25,000–45,000 | 15–27 | Same price, driver waits | | Bolt | Limited | 8,000–18,000 | 5–11 | Fewer drivers, less surge | | Airport taxi | Limited | 15,000–35,000 | 9–21 | Fewer cars at rank | | Unofficial tout | Available | 20,000–50,000 | 12–30 | Avoid at night |

Bolt availability drops after midnight but does not disappear. Prices are actually lower at night since there is no traffic surge. However, you might wait 10–15 minutes for a driver to accept and arrive.

Airport taxis thin out after midnight. You may find a few at the rank, but quality and pricing become more unpredictable.

Safety at night

The airport terminal has security and is safe. The road from Ikeja to Victoria Island via the Third Mainland Bridge is a major highway, well lit, and regularly used even at night. It is not a dangerous route.

What to avoid:

  • Do not accept rides from touts at night — stick to pre-booked transfers or Bolt
  • Do not flash cash or valuables when exiting the terminal
  • Do not wander outside the terminal perimeter looking for a cheaper ride

If you need to wait until morning

If your hotel check-in is not until morning, the terminal is not comfortable for overnight stays. The nearest reliable hotels are in Ikeja, a short ride from the airport:

  • Radisson Blu Ikeja: about NGN 60,000–90,000 (~EUR 36–54) per night, 10 minutes from the airport
  • Ibis Lagos Ikeja: about NGN 35,000–50,000 (~EUR 21–30) per night, 15 minutes away
A pre-booked transfer can take you to either for NGN 8,000–15,000 (~EUR 5–9).
