Getting from Lagos Airport to Your Hotel with Kids

Last updated: March 2026

Travelling through Lagos airport with children requires some extra preparation. The airport is busy, the arrivals process is slow, and the drive to most hotels is long. But with the right planning, it is manageable.

Before you leave the terminal

Immigration at LOS can take 30–90 minutes. With children, this is tiring. Bring snacks, water, and something to keep them occupied. There is no dedicated family lane.

Baggage claim is slow. Luggage carts are sometimes available — porters will offer to help for a tip of NGN 1,000–2,000 (~EUR 0.60–1.20). If you have heavy bags and a child to manage, this can be worth it.

The arrivals hall has basic facilities — restrooms and a few shops. Baby changing areas are limited. Sort out everything you need before heading outside.

Child seats — the honest truth

Child seats are not standard in Lagos. Taxis do not have them. Bolt drivers do not have them. This is the reality across West Africa.

Your options:

| Option | Child seat? | Notes | |--------|------------|-------| | Pre-booked transfer (requested) | Possible | Request when booking — limited availability | | Bring your own | Best option | Fits in transfer vehicle or taxi | | Bolt / Uber | No | Not available | | Airport taxi | No | Not available |

If your child requires a car seat, bring your own from home or request one when booking a transfer. Availability is not guaranteed, so confirm in writing before your trip.

The drive with children

The drive from the airport to Victoria Island can be 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. That is a long time in a car with kids, especially in Lagos heat.

  • Bring entertainment — tablets, books, games
  • Bring water and snacks — there are no convenient stops
  • Air conditioning — make sure it works before departing (confirm with transfer company)
  • Traffic is loud and chaotic — younger children might find it stressful; older kids might find it fascinating

Why a pre-booked transfer is essential for families

Navigating the tout gauntlet outside the terminal with children and luggage is the worst part of arriving in Lagos. A pre-booked transfer means your driver meets you inside the terminal, helps with bags, and takes you directly to the car. No negotiation, no searching, no stress.

The price premium over Bolt is NGN 15,000–20,000 (~EUR 9–12) — a small price for a smooth experience with tired kids.
