KHH - Kaohsiung

Getting from Kaohsiung Airport to the City with Kids and Family

Last updated: March 2026

Kaohsiung airport is one of the most family-friendly airports in Asia, largely because everything is close, clean, and well-organized.

Inside the terminal

The terminal is compact and easy to navigate with children. Elevators are available at every level change. Restrooms with baby changing facilities are clean and well-maintained. A 7-Eleven in the arrivals area sells snacks, drinks, and basic supplies.

Luggage trolleys are free. The walk from immigration to the arrivals exit is short, which matters when you are managing children and bags.

Transport options for families

| Option | Luggage space | Car seat | Cost to center (TWD) | EUR | |--------|--------------|---------|---------------------|-----| | MRT Red Line | Limited (floor space) | Not needed | 35 | ~1 | | Taxi | 2–3 bags | Not provided | 200–350 | 6–10 | | Private transfer sedan | 3 bags | On request | 600–1,000 | 17–29 | | Private transfer minivan | 5–7 bags | On request | 1,000–1,500 | 29–43 |

The MRT with kids

The MRT is genuinely family-friendly. Elevators connect every platform to the concourse and street level. Trains have priority seats for families. Strollers fit comfortably during off-peak hours.

During rush hour (8–9 AM, 5–7 PM), trains get crowded and strollers become harder to manage. If you are arriving during these times with young children, a taxi may be less stressful.

Children under 6 ride the MRT free when accompanied by a paying adult (limit of 4 children per adult).

Car seats in Taiwan

Taiwanese law requires car seats for children under 4. However, taxis are exempt from enforcement in practice, and none carry car seats.

If child safety in vehicles is a priority for you:

1. Bring your own car seat and install it in the taxi 2. Book a private transfer with a car seat requested in advance 3. Use the MRT where car seats are not relevant

For the short ride to central Kaohsiung, many families choose the MRT to avoid the car seat issue entirely.

Heading to Kenting with kids

Kenting beach resort is a popular family destination, about 2 hours south. A private minivan transfer at 3,500–5,000 TWD (~101–145 EUR) with car seats installed is the most comfortable option. The alternative is the Kenting Express bus from Zuoying HSR Station, which is cheaper but a long ride with children.
