Arriving late at night at Hurghada Airport

Last updated: February 2026

Hurghada Airport handles a steady flow of charter flights from Europe, many of which land between 22:00 and 03:00. Late arrivals are normal here, not exceptional. But the transport situation changes after dark.

The airport at night

The terminal stays open as long as flights are arriving. Visa-on-arrival service at the bank counters continues for all arrivals. Immigration can be slow if multiple charters land within the same hour, but generally moves faster at night than during peak daytime windows.

The arrivals hall has limited services after midnight. Currency exchange counters may have reduced hours, and the few shops close early. ATMs remain available. The terminal is functional but not comfortable for extended waiting.

Finding a taxi after midnight

Taxis are available outside the terminal at night, but the dynamics change. Fewer drivers mean less competition, which means less incentive for them to offer fair prices. Late-night fare quotes from airport taxi drivers tend to run 30-50% higher than daytime equivalents.

The negotiation process that is already part of Hurghada's taxi culture becomes more one-sided at night. If you are tired from a long flight, haggling over prices in a dark parking lot is not ideal. Knowing the fair price for your destination and being willing to walk away from a bad offer helps, but it is still not pleasant.

No alternatives

There are no public buses from the airport at any hour. Uber and ride-hailing apps do not operate in Hurghada. After midnight, your realistic options are a taxi at the rank or a pre-booked transfer. That is it.

Why pre-booking makes particular sense here

Hurghada is one of those destinations where a pre-booked transfer genuinely solves a problem rather than just offering convenience. The combination of no meter, no apps, no public transport, and aggressive negotiation at night means the alternative to a pre-booked car is a one-sided bargaining session when you are at your most tired.

Your driver arrives before you land, waits in the arrivals hall, and takes you to your resort at a price agreed days ago. For El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, or Makadi Bay (all 20-30 km from the airport), this is the practical choice.

Practical tips

  • Exchange a small amount of money (200-500 EGP) at the airport before exiting, even if rates are poor. You need cash for a taxi.
  • Have your hotel or resort name and address written down. Resort complexes along the coast can be confusing, and drivers may not know individual hotel names within larger developments.
  • The drive to most resorts is on a well-lit highway, but the final approach roads to some resorts can be dark.
  • Confirm your hotel accepts late check-in. All-inclusive resorts usually do, but smaller properties may need advance notice.
  • If a taxi driver insists on a price that feels too high, calmly wait for the next one. Another will come.
Late nights at Hurghada Airport are not unsafe, just inconvenient. The fewer options you have at that hour, the more a pre-booked transfer is worth.
