FZL - Fuzuli

Family Transfers from Fuzuli Airport

Traveling with children to the Karabakh region requires more planning than a typical family trip, and Fuzuli Airport is where that planning matters most. The airport is functional but basic, and the region's transport and services are still developing.

Child seats and vehicle safety

Child car seats are not standard in Azerbaijan, and in the Karabakh region they are even harder to come by. If your children require a car seat, you have two realistic options: bring your own travel seat, or request one from your transfer provider well in advance and confirm multiple times that it will actually be in the vehicle.

The road from Fuzuli to Shusha involves some winding mountain sections. A proper child restraint is not just a legal consideration — it is a safety one. Do not assume you can sort this out on arrival.

The airport experience with kids

FZL is a small, modern terminal. There are no play areas or family facilities to speak of. If your flight is delayed, options for keeping children occupied are limited to what you brought with you. The terminal has basic seating and restrooms. There is no dedicated family lane or priority boarding process — but with low passenger volumes, this is rarely an issue.

Luggage considerations

Families tend to travel heavy, and the roads in the region can be rough in places. A few practical notes: make sure your transfer vehicle has adequate space (request an SUV or minivan if you have strollers and multiple bags), keep snacks and entertainment accessible for the drive to Shusha (1-1.5 hours), and pack a change of clothes in your carry-on bag in case luggage gets delayed.

Food and supplies

There are no shops at or near Fuzuli Airport. If your children need specific food, formula, or medication, bring everything with you. Shusha has a growing number of shops and restaurants, but selection is limited compared to Baku. Stock up on essentials before leaving the capital.

Is it worth bringing kids to Karabakh

The region is genuinely stunning — mountain scenery, fresh air, and a landscape unlike anything most families will have seen. Shusha in particular is becoming a cultural destination. But infrastructure is early-stage. If your children are old enough to handle a bit of adventure and you plan carefully, it can be a memorable trip. For very young children or families needing reliable amenities, consider whether the timing is right.
