Arriving at Fukuoka Airport Late at Night

Last updated: March 2026

The last subway from Fukuokakuko Station departs around 23:30. If your flight lands after that, you still have straightforward options. The short distance to the city means late-night transport at Fukuoka is far less stressful than at most airports.

What is available after 23:30

| Option | Hours | Cost to Hakata | Notes | |--------|-------|----------------|-------| | Taxi | 24/7 | JPY 2,000-2,500 (~EUR 12-15) | 20% night surcharge after 22:00 | | Pre-booked transfer | 24/7 | EUR 20-35 | Fixed price, no surcharge | | Airport bus | Until ~22:00-23:00 | JPY 270 (~EUR 1.65) | Stops before subway does | | Subway | Until ~23:30 | JPY 260 (~EUR 1.60) | Last option to expire |

The taxi surcharge explained

Japanese taxis apply a 20% surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00. For the Fukuoka Airport to Hakata run, this adds roughly JPY 300-400 (~EUR 2-3) to the standard fare. The total comes to JPY 2,000-2,500 (~EUR 12-15), which is still very reasonable by any international standard.

Taxi queues are shorter at night. You will rarely wait more than a few minutes.

When to pre-book a transfer

A pre-booked transfer makes sense for late-night arrivals when:

  • You want a guaranteed fixed price with no meter running
  • You are travelling with a family and need child seats (not available in taxis)
  • Your destination is outside central Fukuoka where a metered taxi at night rates gets expensive
  • You are part of a group of 5+ needing multiple taxis
For a standard late-night ride to Hakata or Tenjin, a taxi is perfectly fine.

What the airport looks like at night

Fukuoka Airport's International Terminal stays open for late arrivals, but most shops and restaurants close by 21:00-22:00. ATMs and currency exchange may be closed after 22:00. Bring some Japanese yen or use a convenience store ATM (7-Eleven, Lawson) near your hotel.

Flights arriving after midnight

Fukuoka has a noise curfew limiting flights after midnight, so extremely late arrivals are rare. But delays happen. The taxi rank outside the International Terminal operates around the clock. The ride to Hakata takes about 10-15 minutes with virtually no traffic at that hour.
