Arriving Late at Night at Çukurova Airport

Last updated: July 2026

Çukurova International Airport (COV) receives domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara that sometimes land close to midnight. Because the airport is about 35 km from Adana — not the 4 km of the old Şakirpaşa — a late arrival needs a little more planning. Here is what to expect.

The airport at night

COV is a large, modern terminal that stays open for arriving passengers, though most shops and cafes wind down after the last flights. The arrivals hall is well-lit and safe. The surrounding area is open countryside between Adana and Tarsus, so there is little around the airport itself at night — you will want your onward transport sorted before you land.

Havamaş shuttle

The Havamaş shuttle generally runs until about 22:00 and is timed to scheduled flights. For late arrivals it is unreliable — do not count on it after roughly 22:00. If your flight lands later, plan on a taxi or a pre-booked transfer.

Taxi availability

Taxis are available at night but the queue is shorter than during the day. For flights before midnight you will usually find taxis waiting; later than that you may wait 10-15 minutes. Expect a night-rate metered fare of roughly 900-1,400 TL to central Adana given the distance. Carry Turkish lira — late-night card payment is less reliable.

Pre-booked transfers at night

For flights arriving after about 22:00, a pre-booked transfer is the most reliable choice at this airport. The driver tracks your flight, waits regardless of delays, and takes you straight to your door — which matters more when the city is 35 km and 40 minutes away. It is especially valuable if:

  • You do not speak Turkish and would rather not arrange a taxi at midnight
  • You are continuing to Mersin, Tarsus, Osmaniye or Hatay (no shuttle, no intercity buses at that hour without first reaching a station)
  • You are traveling with family and want to minimize waiting

Safety at night

The airport and the D400 road into Adana are well-lit, and the drive is straightforward. Standard urban awareness applies, but there are no specific night-time safety concerns unique to COV. The main risk is simply being stuck without pre-arranged transport at an out-of-town airport late at night.

Delayed flights

Domestic flights to Çukurova occasionally run late, especially from Istanbul. If your flight is significantly delayed, taxi numbers may be lower by the time you land, and the shuttle will likely have finished. Pre-booked transfer services monitor flight status and adjust pickup automatically — the safest bet for a delayed late arrival.

Practical tips

  • Sort your transport before you fly if you land after ~22:00 — the shuttle will be done.
  • Save your hotel address offline to show a taxi driver.
  • Carry Turkish lira cash for a night taxi.
  • Heading to Mersin, Tarsus or Hatay at night? A pre-booked transfer is effectively the only practical door-to-door option.
  • Factor in the ~40-minute drive: even with a waiting car, budget close to an hour from touchdown to hotel.
