Burgas Airport with Kids: What Families Need to Know

Last updated: March 2026

Burgas Airport is small and manageable, which is good news for families. The terminal is compact, walks are short, and you will not spend 20 minutes navigating corridors with a stroller and tired children.

The terminal experience

BOJ has a single terminal with a simple layout. After passport control and luggage collection, you walk straight out to arrivals. There are no long transfers between terminals, no shuttle trains, and no confusing signage. Luggage trolleys are available in the baggage hall.

There is a small cafe in the arrivals area if you need to feed children before heading out. Do not expect a play area or family lounge — this is a seasonal airport, not a major hub.

Getting a child seat

This is the most important consideration for families at BOJ. Bulgarian taxis do not carry child seats. If your child requires one by law or for safety, a taxi is not an option.

Private transfer companies will provide child seats (infant, toddler, or booster) if you request them at the time of booking. Most provide them at no extra charge. Be specific about your child's age and weight so the correct seat is fitted.

Best transport for families

| Option | Family Suitability | Why | |--------|--------------------|-----| | Private transfer | Best | Child seats, door-to-door, fixed price, space for luggage | | Taxi | Acceptable for older kids | No child seats, limited luggage space | | Bus 15 | Not recommended | No luggage space, requires transfer, no child seats | | Tour operator coach | Fine if included | Long ride with multiple hotel stops |

For a family of four heading to Sunny Beach, a private transfer typically costs 40-70 EUR total — roughly 10-18 EUR per person. That buys you a dedicated vehicle with a child seat, direct hotel drop-off, and no stress.

Strollers and luggage

The walk from baggage claim to the car park is very short — under 50 meters. If you have a stroller, you can push it all the way to your vehicle without any stairs or escalators.

Private transfer vehicles (usually minivans for families) have ample boot space for strollers, car seats, and multiple suitcases.

Tour operator coaches

If you booked a package holiday, your transfer is likely included via coach. Be prepared: these coaches stop at multiple hotels along the coast, so your journey to Sunny Beach could take 60-90 minutes instead of 25-30. With small children, this can feel very long after a flight.

Tips for families

  • Withdraw BGN from the ATM outside arrivals rather than exchanging at the booth — better rate for buying snacks and drinks on the way.
  • Bring water and snacks for the transfer. The airport shop is small and overpriced.
  • Book transfers in advance during July and August — demand is highest and last-minute options are limited.
  • Check your child seat request the day before your flight to make sure it is confirmed.
