Late evening at Belfast City Airport — the curfew changes everything

Belfast City Airport is unique among UK airports because it has a strict noise curfew. This affects late-night planning significantly.

The curfew

BHD operates under a planning restriction that limits flights:

• Standard operations: 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM
• Extended hours (limited slots): Up to 11:30 PM
• No flights: 11:30 PM to 6:30 AM

This means truly late-night arrivals (midnight, 1 AM, 2 AM) don't happen at BHD. If your airline schedules a late-night flight to Belfast, it will almost certainly be at Belfast International (BFS), not here.

Evening transport (up to 9:30 PM)

For the typical last flights arriving around 8-9:30 PM, all transport is running:

• Uber working but with longer waits

If your flight is delayed past 11:30 PM, the airline may have to divert to Belfast International (BFS). This is rare but happens. If it does, you'd need transport from BFS (20km from the city) rather than BHD.

The practical implication

Because of the curfew, late-night transport planning is rarely an issue at BHD. You'll almost always arrive before 10 PM when everything is running. This is one of the advantages of flying into Belfast City over Belfast International — you're unlikely to face a midnight arrival with no transport.

In the rare event of a significant delay that leaves you at BHD very late:

• Taxi remains available (call one if the rank is empty)
• The airport is 5km from the city — worst case, an Uber will always pick up
• Stormont Hotel and other accommodation options are within a short taxi ride
• The city center is genuinely close — this is never a major problem at BHD
