ASR - Kayseri

Arriving at Kayseri Airport Late at Night

Kayseri Erkilet Airport handles domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara that regularly land between 22:00 and midnight. Occasional international charters arrive late too, especially in peak Cappadocia season.

What the airport looks like after dark

ASR is a quiet airport outside of flight clusters. After the last batch of arrivals, the terminal empties quickly. Shops and the small cafe close. ATMs remain accessible. The terminal is safe but not a comfortable place to spend hours — there are no sleeping lounges or 24-hour facilities.

Transport to Kayseri city center

Taxis are still available at night, though the queue is shorter. You may wait 5-10 minutes rather than walking straight to a car. The ride to the city is the same 10-15 minutes, and fares do not change significantly at night since meters are used.

Transport to Cappadocia at night

This is where late arrivals require planning. The Havas shuttle to Goreme/Urgup runs for the last scheduled flights, but if your flight is delayed, the bus may have already departed. If it has, your options are a taxi (if you can find one willing to drive to Cappadocia at that hour) or a pre-booked transfer.

The road from Kayseri to Cappadocia is a well-maintained highway but poorly lit outside of towns. It is not dangerous — Turkish intercity roads are busy with trucks even at night — but it is unfamiliar terrain in the dark.

A pre-booked transfer is the strongest recommendation for late-night Cappadocia arrivals. Your driver monitors your flight and waits regardless of delays. You do not have to negotiate with a taxi driver at midnight or hope the shuttle is still running.

Safety considerations

Kayseri is a conservative Anatolian city and the airport area is safe. You are not at risk waiting for a taxi at night. The main concern is logistics — not security. The worst-case scenario is standing around a nearly empty airport trying to arrange transport. Avoid this by booking in advance.

If you are stuck

If all transport options fall through, there are a couple of basic hotels within a few kilometers of the airport in the Kayseri suburbs. A taxi can get you there. You would then arrange a morning transfer to Cappadocia. This is a last resort, but it beats sleeping in the terminal.
