Arriving late at night at Izmir Airport

Last updated: March 2026

ADB handles domestic and international flights throughout the day and evening. Late-night arrivals are less common here than at charter-heavy resorts like Antalya or Bodrum, but they do occur — particularly on delayed flights, domestic connections, and some international routes. Here is what to expect.

The Izban train at night

The Izban commuter rail is ADB's headline transport advantage. During the day and into the evening, it is the best way to reach Izmir centre. However, the last Izban train departs from the airport in the late evening — roughly around midnight, but the exact final service time changes with the seasonal schedule.

If your flight lands before 11 PM, you likely have a train option. If you land after midnight, the train has stopped. Check the current IZBAN schedule before travelling, particularly if your flight has a history of delays.

Havas bus at night

The Havas shuttle to Izmir ends earlier than the train — typically in the mid-evening. For late-night arrivals, the Havas bus is generally not available. Do not rely on it for flights arriving after 9-10 PM.

Taxis at night

Taxis operate 24 hours at ADB. The rank is outside arrivals and there are usually vehicles available even late at night. For Izmir centre, a metered fare of TRY 300-450 is standard at night (slightly higher than day rates due to night tariff). The drive takes 20-25 minutes with no traffic.

For longer trips to Çeşme (85 km) or Kuşadası (95 km) late at night, taxis are available but the negotiation dynamic shifts. Drivers heading to Çeşme at midnight face a long return journey. Late-night fares for these routes tend to be at or above the high end of daytime ranges.

Pre-booked transfers at night

For late arrivals heading to destinations beyond Izmir — particularly Çeşme, Alaçatı, and Kuşadası — a pre-booked transfer is the most reliable option. Your driver monitors your flight and adjusts for delays. You agree the price before you travel. The Çeşme motorway has very little traffic late at night, so the drive is actually faster than during the day.

For Izmir centre, the case for pre-booking late at night is weaker — the taxi rank is functional and the fare is modest.

The airport at night

ADB's facilities scale back in the evening. Some shops and cafes close after 10-11 PM. The arrivals hall remains operational for incoming flights. ATMs and basic facilities are available around the clock. The terminal is modern and comfortable for a short wait.

Getting to your accommodation late

Izmir's hotels operate 24-hour reception in larger properties. Boutique hotels and smaller guesthouses may not staff reception overnight — confirm late check-in arrangements before arriving, particularly if your flight might be delayed.

For Çeşme and Alaçatı, resort hotels and most boutique properties have 24-hour reception during the summer season. Off-season arrivals should always confirm.

Practical advice

  • Check the final Izban train time for the night of your arrival before you leave home. The schedule is available on the IZBAN website.
  • If your flight lands after midnight, plan for a taxi or pre-booked transfer. Do not build a plan around the train.
  • For Çeşme or Alaçatı arrivals after 9 PM, pre-booking is recommended. Negotiating a fair fare at the taxi rank late at night is harder, and driver availability for long runs can be patchy.
  • The Çeşme motorway is fast and well-lit. Night drives are smooth.
