Saipan is a small island, roughly 19 km long and 9 km wide. That means transfer distances are short and costs are low compared to most airport destinations worldwide. The challenge is not price — it is availability.
Transfer costs from SPN in 2026
Chalan Kanoa: $15-$25. The nearest town to the airport, just 5-10 minutes north. Some budget hotels and guesthouses are located here.
Garapan (main tourist strip): $20-$35. About 10-15 minutes from the airport. This is where most visitors stay, with the concentration of resorts, restaurants, and the Managaha Island ferry terminal.
Beach Road hotels: $20-$35. The hotels along Beach Road from Susupe to Garapan are all within this price range. The road runs along the western coast with ocean views the whole way.
Capitol Hill / San Roque: $20-$30. The government center area in the middle of the island. About 10 minutes from the airport.
San Jose: $15-$25. Close to the airport, a short ride south. Some vacation rentals are in this area.
Northern end (Banzai Cliff, Bird Island area): $30-$45. The northern tip of the island is about 20-25 minutes from the airport. Few visitors stay this far north, but some private villas are located here.
Why prices are what they are
Saipan does not have a competitive transport market. There is no Uber, no Lyft, no public bus network. Your options are limited to taxis, hotel shuttles, pre-booked transfers, and rental cars. With less competition, prices are slightly higher per kilometre than you might expect for such short distances.
Taxi fares are negotiated, not metered. This means the price depends partly on your negotiating skill and partly on the driver's mood and the time of day. Having a general idea of fair prices before you land helps avoid overpaying.
Pre-booked transfers offer the advantage of a price agreed before you arrive. No negotiation at the curb, no surprises. The price you see at booking is the price you pay.
Hotel shuttles
Several of the larger resorts offer airport transfer as part of their service, either complimentary or for a set fee (typically $15-$25 per person or $30-$50 per vehicle). Contact your hotel before arrival to check availability and book a spot. This is often the most economical option for resort guests.
Smaller hotels, guesthouses, and Airbnb rentals generally do not offer shuttle service. For these, a pre-booked transfer is the most reliable choice.
Rental cars
Renting a car on Saipan adds flexibility for the duration of your stay. Daily rates in 2026 range from $40-$70 for a compact car. The island is easy to drive — one main road, minimal traffic, and most destinations are well-signed. If you plan to explore beyond your hotel, renting may be more cost-effective than booking multiple transfers.
Book early, especially during Japanese and Korean holiday seasons, when rental fleets can sell out.
The bottom line
Transfer costs on Saipan are modest — you are rarely paying more than $35-$45 for any destination on the island. The real value of booking ahead is not savings but certainty. On a small island with limited transport options, knowing someone will be there when you land is worth more than the fare itself.
