Cork Airport is not a major hub, so late-night flights are relatively few. Most arrivals land before 23:00. But if you are on one of the later services, here is what to expect.
What Stops Running
The 226A bus service to Cork city centre becomes very infrequent in the evening and the last bus typically departs around 23:00-23:30. After that, there is no public transport from the airport until the following morning. The bus timetable varies by day of the week, with Sunday services ending earlier.
Taxis After Hours
Taxis are available at the rank outside arrivals for late flights. However, Cork Airport is not busy enough at night to maintain a constant stream of taxis. After the last flights land and the initial rush clears, the rank can empty. If you arrive to find no taxis, you can call a local taxi company or use the FreeNow app to request one. Wait times of 15-25 minutes are possible late at night.
Late Night Taxi Fares
Irish taxis apply a premium rate between 20:00 and 08:00, as well as on Sundays and public holidays. The premium rate is roughly 30-40% higher than the standard daytime rate. A trip to Cork city centre that costs 20-25 EUR during the day may cost 28-35 EUR at night. For longer trips to Kinsale or Cobh, the premium adds 10-20 EUR to the daytime fare.
Pre-Booked Transfers at Night
A private transfer booked in advance is the most dependable option for late arrivals. Your driver tracks your flight and is there when you walk out, regardless of whether the flight is on time or delayed. The price is agreed at booking and does not change for late-night arrivals. This is especially valuable if you are heading somewhere outside Cork city, like Kinsale or a rural holiday rental, where finding a taxi at midnight would be very difficult.
The Airport After Hours
Cork Airport's shops, cafe, and facilities close by 23:00 or shortly after the last flight. The terminal remains open for arriving passengers but there is little to do. There are no airport hotels within walking distance, though a few hotels along the Kinsale Road are a short taxi ride away.
Planning Advice
If your flight is scheduled to arrive after 21:00, book your transfer before you travel. This is particularly important if heading anywhere outside Cork city. Let your accommodation know your arrival time, especially for B&Bs and guesthouses where the host may need to leave a key or stay up for you. Keep your phone charged and have your transfer details easily accessible. Cork is safe, but arriving in an unfamiliar place late at night is always easier when someone is there to meet you.
