JED - Jeddah

How much does it cost to get from Jeddah Airport to your destination

Last updated: February 2026

King Abdulaziz Airport is 19 km from central Jeddah, with many visitors continuing 80 km to Makkah. Here is what each transport option costs.

Cost by destination and transport

| Destination | Taxi | Uber/Careem | Transfer | |---|---|---|---| | Jeddah city center | 80-120 SAR | 70-110 SAR | 100-150 SAR | | Corniche area | 80-120 SAR | 70-110 SAR | 100-150 SAR | | Al Balad (Old Town) | 90-130 SAR | 80-120 SAR | 110-160 SAR | | North Jeddah/Obhur | 50-80 SAR | 40-70 SAR | 70-100 SAR | | Makkah | 250-400 SAR | 200-350 SAR | 300-450 SAR | | Taif | 500-800 SAR | N/A | 600-900 SAR | | Madinah | 1,200-1,800 SAR | N/A | 1,400-2,000 SAR |

All prices approximate. During Hajj and Umrah seasons, expect significant increases across all options.

How the three options compare

Metered taxis provide predictable pricing for Jeddah trips. The meter runs on distance and time, and airport taxis are regulated. For the 19 km trip to the city center, the fare is straightforward.

Uber and Careem tend to be slightly cheaper than metered taxis for standard trips. The upfront fare estimate in the app gives you a clear price before you commit. The downside is walking to the pickup zone and potential wait times, especially after midnight.

Pre-booked transfers cost more than both but offer fixed pricing, named driver, and guaranteed availability. The premium is modest for Jeddah trips (20-40 SAR more) but provides value during pilgrimage seasons when the other options become unpredictable.

The Hajj/Umrah price surge

During pilgrimage seasons, the transport market shifts dramatically:

  • Taxi queues grow long, and some drivers request flat fares above the meter rate.
  • Uber and Careem activate surge pricing. A trip that normally costs 80 SAR might cost 150-200 SAR.
  • Transfer prices remain fixed at pre-agreed rates, which is their main advantage during these periods.
If you are arriving during Hajj or Umrah season, pre-booking transport locks in a price before the surge hits.

The Makkah route

The 80 km journey to Makkah is the most common long-distance trip from JED. Normal taxi fare is 250-400 SAR. During Hajj, this can exceed 600 SAR. Pre-booked transfers for Makkah typically range from 300-450 SAR outside pilgrimage season.

Note: non-Muslims are not permitted to enter Makkah. There are checkpoints on the highway.

Currency context

The Saudi Riyal (SAR) is pegged to the US Dollar at approximately 3.75 SAR = 1 USD. This makes pricing stable:

  • 100 SAR is roughly 26-27 USD / 24-25 EUR
  • A taxi to the city center at 100 SAR is about 27 USD
  • A transfer to Makkah at 400 SAR is about 107 USD

What affects the price

Pilgrimage season. The single biggest variable. Prices for all transport options increase substantially.

Traffic. Jeddah traffic during rush hours adds time and metered fare. The effect is less dramatic than in Istanbul but still noticeable.

Vehicle type. Standard sedans are the base price. SUVs and minivans cost 30-50% more.

Time of day. Late-night Uber/Careem prices may surge if driver supply is low.

Tipping

Tipping is appreciated in Saudi Arabia but not mandatory. For taxi drivers, rounding up by 10-20 SAR is customary. For transfer drivers, a similar gesture is appropriate.

The bottom line on cost

Jeddah Airport transport is reasonably priced by international standards. For trips within Jeddah, the cost differences between taxi, app, and transfer are small. The distinction matters most for the Makkah route and during pilgrimage seasons, where a pre-booked transfer provides price certainty that the alternatives cannot match.
