Late night arrival at Indianapolis Airport

Last updated: March 2026

IND does not have heavy late-night traffic, but some connecting flights arrive after 11 PM. Here is what to expect.

What is available after midnight

| Option | Available? | Notes | |--------|-----------|-------| | IndyGo Green Line | No | Last bus around 11 PM weekdays, 10 PM Sundays | | Taxis | Limited | May need to call for one, not always queued | | Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) | Yes | Available but longer wait times (5-15 min) | | Private transfer | Yes | Pre-booked, driver waits for you |

The late-night reality at IND

Indianapolis is not a 24/7 city, and the airport reflects this. After midnight, the terminal is quiet. Most restaurants and shops close by 9-10 PM. Vending machines are available. The terminal is climate-controlled and has seating, but there is not much to do.

The taxi stand may be empty after midnight. You can call a taxi company, but expect a 15-20 minute wait. Rideshares are more reliable but driver supply is low in the late hours. Wait times of 5-15 minutes are typical, and mild surge pricing of 1.3-1.8x is possible.

Why pre-booking matters here

At a large hub like JFK or LAX, you can always find a ride at 2 AM. IND is smaller, and supply drops significantly after midnight. A pre-booked transfer guarantees that a driver is waiting when you walk out of baggage claim. The price is set. There is no searching for a ride at a quiet airport.

This is especially important if you are connecting through IND and your arrival time is uncertain. The transfer driver tracks your flight and adjusts.

Overnight at the airport

IND is not ideal for overnight stays. The terminal is technically open 24 hours, but it is not designed for sleeping. Seating is limited and there are no rest pods or lounges available after hours. If your plans allow, getting to your hotel is the better option even if it means paying a premium for a late-night ride.

Safety

IND is a safe airport. The terminal and ground transport areas are well-lit and monitored. Stick to official taxi stands and the designated rideshare zone on the lower level.
