Honolulu receives late flights from the US mainland, Asia, and other Pacific destinations. Some of the busiest arrival windows are actually in the evening and late night. Here is what works after dark.
When public transport stops

If your flight lands after 22:00 and you need time for immigration and bags, assume the bus is not available.
Taxis after hours
The taxi rank at HNL operates around the clock, but availability thins out after midnight. You might wait 10-20 minutes for a car at very late hours. Fares remain metered at normal rates. There is no late-night surcharge on Honolulu taxis, which is a relief compared to many cities.
Expected late-night taxi costs to Waikiki: USD 40-55 (~EUR 36-50) plus tip. Same as daytime.
Rideshares at night
Uber and Lyft are available 24 hours, but driver supply drops significantly after midnight. Wait times of 15-30 minutes are common. Surge pricing may apply if several flights arrive simultaneously.
Private transfer at night
This is the most reliable option for late arrivals. Your driver monitors your flight, adjusts for delays, and waits at arrivals no matter what time you clear customs. The price remains the same as daytime: USD 35-50 (~EUR 32-45) for a sedan or USD 55-70 (~EUR 50-63) for a minivan.
For flights landing after 22:00, booking in advance removes all uncertainty.
Staying at the airport
HNL does not have an airside hotel or capsule lounge. The terminal is open-air and not designed for sleeping. If you have a very late arrival and an early morning connection to another island, some travelers nap in the terminal seating area, but it is not comfortable or recommended for families.
Safety note
The airport area and the drive to Waikiki are safe at all hours. Waikiki itself is active late into the night. You will not have issues arriving at your hotel at midnight or later.
