Arriving late at night at Phuket Airport

Last updated: February 2026

Phuket Airport receives flights until the early morning hours, with many long-haul and regional flights touching down between 23:00 and 03:00. If your flight lands late, here is what you need to know.

The airport after midnight

The international terminal stays open and operational as long as flights are arriving. Immigration lines are generally shorter for late arrivals, though a cluster of flights landing between midnight and 01:00 can still produce queues. The arrivals hall has ATMs and a few 24-hour convenience points.

The air conditioning works well inside the terminal, but stepping outside into Phuket's night humidity is a noticeable contrast, even at 02:00.

Taxi availability

The official taxi counter inside the arrivals hall typically operates throughout the night. However, the number of waiting drivers drops significantly after midnight. Waits of 15-20 minutes are possible. The metered fare does not change for nighttime trips, but the 100 THB airport surcharge still applies.

Some touts remain active after midnight, and their pricing gets more aggressive when fewer official options are available. Stick with the official counter.

Grab and shared minibus

Grab availability decreases sharply after 23:00. You may find a driver, but wait times of 15-30 minutes are common. The shared airport minibus stops operating around 22:00. Neither is reliable for very late arrivals.

Why a pre-booked transfer is worth considering

The drive from the airport to Patong, Karon, or Kata takes 35-50 minutes at night with empty roads, actually shorter than during the day. But finding a ride is the problem, not the drive itself.

A pre-booked transfer eliminates the search. Your driver monitors your flight status and waits in the arrivals hall. No app hunting, no negotiating with touts, no standing in the humid parking area hoping a taxi appears.

For destinations further south like Rawai or Nai Harn (50+ km), a pre-booked transfer is strongly advisable at night. Finding a taxi willing to make that trip at 02:00 is not guaranteed.

Practical tips

  • Have Thai Baht ready. Late-night exchange counters may be closed, but ATMs work 24 hours.
  • Save your hotel address in Thai script on your phone. Some drivers navigate better with Thai characters.
  • Check if your hotel has a late check-in policy. Some budget places lock up after midnight.
  • The roads between the airport and the beach areas wind through hills. They are well-maintained but dark and occasionally steep.
  • There is no accommodation within walking distance of the airport.
Phuket at night is quieter and the roads are faster. The only real challenge is securing your ride. Sort that out before you land and the rest is straightforward.
