CVG Airport with Kids – Family Transport Guide

Last updated: April 2026

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport is a manageable size for families. It is not as sprawling as major US hubs, and the layout is logical. Here is what families need to know about getting from CVG to their destination.

Car seat requirements

This is the critical issue. Both Ohio and Kentucky require child car seats by law:

  • Under age 2: Rear-facing car seat required
  • Ages 2–4: Forward-facing car seat with harness
  • Ages 4–8: Booster seat required
  • Ages 8+: Seat belt required

Neither taxis nor Uber/Lyft provide car seats. Your options:

  • Bring your own car seat — most practical for families with young children. Airlines check them for free
  • Book a private transfer with a car seat — specify the child's age and weight when booking. Confirm 24 hours before arrival
  • Rent a car seat with your rental car — available from most agencies at CVG for about USD 10–15/day

Enforcement varies, but the law is clear and child safety should not be compromised for convenience.

Navigating the terminal

CVG has a single terminal with three concourses. The walk from the furthest gate to baggage claim takes about 10–15 minutes with moving walkways available. Elevators are located near every escalator.

Baggage claim is on the lower level. Free luggage carts are available for USD 6 (card or cash). The walk from baggage claim to ground transportation is short — through the doors and you are at the curb.

Family restrooms with changing tables are located in the main terminal and in each concourse.

Best transport options for families

Family SizeRecommended OptionApproximate Cost
2 adults + 1 childUberX (with your own car seat)USD 20–35
2 adults + 2 kids needing seatsPrivate transfer with car seatsEUR 45–65

Extended family, 5+ peopleMinivan transfer or two UbersEUR 55–80 or USD 40–70

For families who have their own car seats, Uber or Lyft is the most affordable option. Installing a car seat in an Uber takes a few minutes — the driver will wait. Let them know via the app that you have a car seat so they are prepared.

The drive to Cincinnati

The ride from CVG to downtown Cincinnati takes 20–35 minutes on I-71/I-75. The road is a well-maintained interstate highway. There are no tricky mountain roads or rough patches.

Tips for families

  • Snacks and entertainment: Have these in your carry-on for the car ride. The 20–30 minute drive is short but can feel long for tired, hungry children after a flight
  • Check rideshare vs transfer prices: During off-peak times, Uber is cheapest. During events or late nights, a private transfer avoids surge pricing
  • Rental car consideration: If you plan to visit Kings Island, the zoo, and other spread-out attractions, a rental car with an installed car seat may be the best overall solution
  • Stroller at CVG: The airport is stroller-friendly with elevators everywhere and a compact layout
