Bodrum Airport (BJV) is 36 km from Bodrum town centre, and many peninsula resorts are 50-65 km away. Transport costs reflect these distances. Here is an honest breakdown.
Havas bus to Bodrum centre: TRY 100-130 (EUR 3-4)
The cheapest option. The Havas shuttle bus runs from the airport to Bodrum Otogar (central bus station). Journey time is 50-60 minutes. The bus runs on a schedule during peak season — check current times as they change seasonally. The bus drops you at the bus station, not your hotel. From there, a local taxi or dolmus gets you to your final address. This is only practical if you are staying in central Bodrum and travelling light.
Taxi prices (approximate)
Taxi fares at BJV are based on negotiation for most trips. The meter is sometimes used for shorter fares but many drivers prefer a fixed price for resort destinations. These are realistic ranges:
| Destination | Distance | Taxi fare (approx) | |------------|----------|--------------------| | Bodrum centre | 36 km | TRY 600-900 | | Gumbet | 33 km | TRY 600-900 | | Bitez | 30 km | TRY 550-800 | | Torba | 25 km | TRY 500-750 | | Konacik | 20 km | TRY 400-650 | | Turgutreis | 50 km | TRY 800-1,200 | | Gumusluk | 48 km | TRY 800-1,200 | | Yalikavak | 55 km | TRY 900-1,400 | | Golturkbuku | 45 km | TRY 750-1,100 |
The lira equivalents in EUR shift constantly. At a rough rate of TRY 35 per EUR, TRY 900 is about EUR 26. Confirm the current rate before travelling.
Pre-booked transfer prices
Transfer prices are quoted in EUR, providing more budget certainty:
| Destination | Sedan (1-3 pax) | Minivan (4-6 pax) | |------------|-----------------|-------------------| | Bodrum centre | EUR 20-35 | EUR 30-45 | | Gumbet | EUR 20-35 | EUR 30-45 | | Bitez | EUR 20-30 | EUR 28-40 | | Torba | EUR 18-28 | EUR 26-38 | | Turgutreis | EUR 30-45 | EUR 40-58 | | Gumusluk | EUR 28-42 | EUR 38-55 | | Yalikavak | EUR 35-50 | EUR 45-65 | | Golturkbuku | EUR 28-42 | EUR 38-55 |
Prices include airport pickup, driver waiting time, and direct service to your accommodation.
What affects the price
Distance is the primary factor. The Bodrum Peninsula is large. The difference between Torba (25 km) and Yalikavak (55 km) is significant.
Vehicle type matters for groups. A sedan works for 1-3 passengers with standard luggage. A minivan is necessary for families of four with beach holiday luggage. Minibuses accommodate larger groups and are often cheaper per person.
Negotiation plays a big role in taxi pricing at BJV. Drivers quote varying prices to tourists. Knowing a reasonable benchmark helps: TRY 900 to Bodrum centre is toward the high end, TRY 650 is fair.
Season has a minor impact. Peak summer (July-August) sees slightly higher demand for all transport. Shoulder season prices are marginally lower.
Currency fluctuation is a real factor at BJV. The Turkish lira has weakened substantially in recent years. Taxi prices in lira adjust over time. Transfer prices in EUR are more stable for advance planning.
The value calculation
For Bodrum centre: The Havas bus at EUR 3-4 is the budget option if you are going light and straight to the centre. A transfer at EUR 20-35 is the comfort option for a family.
For Gumbet or Bitez: Very close to Bodrum centre. Transfers and taxis are similarly priced to Bodrum centre. No significant premium.
For Turgutreis or Gumusluk (50 km): The gap between a fair taxi fare and a transfer narrows here. A transfer at EUR 30-45 is competitive with a negotiated taxi and eliminates uncertainty.
For Yalikavak (55 km): This is the furthest major resort cluster from the airport. At EUR 35-50 for a private transfer, or TRY 900-1,400 for a taxi, the costs are in a similar range. The transfer advantage is certainty and vehicle quality.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not compulsory in Turkey. For transfer drivers, rounding up or adding 10% is generous. For taxi drivers, rounding up to the nearest convenient amount is standard.
