BEY - Beirut

How much does it cost to get from Beirut Airport to the city?

Last updated: April 2026

Beirut Rafic Hariri Airport is about 10 km south of downtown Beirut. The journey takes 15-30 minutes depending on traffic, which is the main factor affecting your experience rather than distance.

Price breakdown by transport type

Airport taxiUSD 20-35Negotiate before entering

Prices beyond central Beirut

If your destination is outside Beirut, expect these approximate taxi or transfer costs:

DestinationDistanceTaxi/Transfer Price
Jounieh30 kmUSD 30-50
Byblos (Jbeil)45 kmUSD 50-70
Sidon (Saida)45 kmUSD 40-60

Currency matters

Lebanon's currency situation is unusual. The Lebanese Lira (LBP) has experienced significant devaluation. Most transport providers prefer payment in USD cash. Some taxi drivers will quote in LBP at the market rate, others directly in USD. Always confirm which currency a price is quoted in before agreeing.

Ride-hailing apps charge in LBP but the conversion is handled automatically. Credit cards work with pre-booked transfers but are rarely accepted by regular taxis.

Tips to avoid overpaying

Airport taxis at BEY do not use meters. The price is whatever you agree on. If a driver quotes more than USD 35 to central Beirut, it is too high. Having the Bolt or Uber app ready gives you a benchmark price and a backup option. Rush hour (7-9 AM, 5-8 PM) does not change the taxi fare but can double the journey time.
